ho_co Posted June 19, 2015 Share #1  Posted June 19, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) An article in the German-language business newspaper Handelsblatt lists the fifteen strongest luxury brands from Germany. http://www.handelsblatt.com/unternehmen/handel-konsumgueter/leica-lange-montblanc-das-sind-die-staerksten-deutschen-luxusmarken/11928268.html They are: 15. Poggenpohl 14. Koch und Bergfeld 13. Bechstein Piano 12. Dedon 11. Robbe & Berking 10. BMW i8  9. Porsche  8. Walter Knoll  7. Graf von Faber Castell  6. Rimowa  5. Glashütte Original  4. Bulthaup Küchen  3. Leica  2. A. Lange & Söhne  1. Montblanc   The article doesn’t say what the criteria are for the ranking, but there are plenty of silversmiths, furniture makers, watchmakers etc there with one camera maker.
Advertisement Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Hi ho_co, Take a look here Leica #3 of German luxury goods makers. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
menos I M6 Posted June 19, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted June 19, 2015 That order completely surprised me. Some of them I didn't even consider a "luxury brand". Montblanc - really?
sc_rufctr Posted June 20, 2015 Share #3  Posted June 20, 2015 Montblanc definitely is a luxury brand. They are widely regarded as the best fountain pen manufacturers in the world. Also, their leather goods are as good as any of the top Italian brands.
ho_co Posted June 20, 2015 Author Share #4 Â Posted June 20, 2015 The photo in the article used to identify Mont Blanc is of their watches, so let's not forget them!
menos I M6 Posted June 22, 2015 Share #5  Posted June 22, 2015 Montblanc definitely is a luxury brand. They are widely regarded as the best fountain pen manufacturers in the world. Also, their leather goods are as good as any of the top Italian brands. I am aware of that, use their pens myself. My surprise was how they are reading that list ahead of such brands as Porsche, Lange & Söhne, Glashütte, etc … that doesn't compute. Also Rimowa has made quite the run with extensive (almost ridiculous) levels of product placements of the last years. If you handle their classic aluminum luggage though one thing is apparent - it's great luggage (I use only Rimowa for hard cases) but it certainly is not luxurious at all. It is just simple, well made products which are falsely now more and more perceived as "luxury goods".  This is actually a sad development as consumers went for the penny products to have everything and have it faster (even if they can not afford it) that lead to simple, well manufactured quality consumer goods to become "luxury items" ???  Yes Montblanc do have a watch range which does look quite interesting and well made. I am among those though who still do not recognize them as a watchmaker and would never buy one of their watches. They do make nice pens though (if you overlook their ridiculous, garish special editions quite comparable to gold-plated Leica M6 special editions of the 90s). Manoleica Posted June 22, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted June 22, 2015 A purely useless Snobs List, means nothing! Probably written by some overpaid hack with nothing better to do!
ho_co Posted June 23, 2015 Author Share #7  Posted June 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The criteria, according to Andreas Kreuz in post #5 in the German forum under http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/246646-leica-im-3-rang-unter-deutschen-luxushersteller/#entry2839080 :  The Luxury Brand Index is based on the opinions of 163 branch experts in regard to the three criteria relative price difference of the luxury goods manufacturer to a mainstream brand manufacturer; absolute price; and attractiveness of a brand. Source: Biesalski & Company and Brand Networks  Andreas also points out another listing where Leica comes in at 9th place: http://www.wiwo.de/u...2&a=false#image
