spylaw4 Posted May 20, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted May 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll be in HK in a little over one month's time. I don't need general tourist info - been before and got lots of that! Â What I would appreciate is recommendations for photography shops - particularly relating to Oly/Panasonic for my L1 which is asking me for a present or two. Someone has already told me about one shop, but alternatives would be great. Â I would also very much like to know if there is somewhere stocking Artisan & Artist bags in HK. I've seen the recent thread in the M8 forum re the Oskar, which I like, but fear that that will not be deep enough for the L1 to go in lens down and have room for anyhting else. To give you an idea - my current Billingham Alice (got for the D2) can't really cope with the L1 + any extra lenses and other bits and bobs, and I dislike Lowepro and Crumpler bags. Â Thanks in advance for your help in this.
Advertisement Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Hi spylaw4, Take a look here Hong Kong - camera & A&A info?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
guidomo Posted May 21, 2007 Share #2  Posted May 21, 2007 Hi Brian, I live in Hong Kong but mainly know about shops geared towards Leica stuff. The only shop I've found that do A&A bags is Tin Cheung in TST, cf. Tin Cheung Camera Company  The have a lot of bags (including many A&As) but no stock of the Oscar (ACAM-7100) at the moment (I wanted it for my M8). But I would judge that you'd need something bigger for the L1 anyway (assuming you carry several lenses).
bono0272 Posted May 21, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted May 21, 2007 Brian, Â Here is a list for the major camera shops in Hong Kong. If you want something for Olympus and Panasonic, I suggest you go to Man Shing or Wing Shing as listed in the table. They are famous and reputable shops, and have fixed prices. Some other shops may have floating prices and some of the goods may be grey products. Â Short List of Camera Shops

carstenw Posted May 21, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted May 21, 2007 Brian, check out my Artisan&Artist ACAM 7100 mini review in the M8 section. They made a mistake and sent me two, and I could sell you the one at cost plus shipping, if you are interested. (about 135 Euro, plus 17 for shipping, IIRC). MP3 Posted May 22, 2007 Share #7  Posted May 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Welcome  Richard's list is good enough. I would suggest Man Shing Mongkok and Fotokina at Stanley Street Central. They are my trusted dealers. Enjoy your shopping on L1 lens.
spylaw4 Posted May 22, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted May 22, 2007 Thanks Richard. Â Carsten - did you receive my PM re the bag? If not please PM/email me.
carstenw Posted May 22, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted May 22, 2007 Yes, I just got home late last night and didn't have time this morning. I will measure out an object the size of an L1 and take some photos so that you can judge it. It may be a little small. Maybe you want the ACAM/GCAM 7000 instead, but let me check it out first. spylaw4 Posted May 22, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted May 22, 2007 Thanks Carsten. Looking at the A&A catalogue you may be right the 7000 has that few extra mm which may make all the difference. But I'll await your report.

carstenw Posted May 22, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted May 22, 2007 Okay, I went to the Leica store and re-arranged my back to set the Leica Digilux-3 down into the bag with the kit lens on it. In this fashion, there is room for a lens on either side, and then the camera with the kit lens face-down in the middle. While it fit, the back of the camera, facing up, is flush with the edge of the bag, and to be honest, it didn't feel very secure. Alternatively, you could remove one insert, fit the camera sideways-down in the centre with the lens pointing off to one side, and still fit another lens on the other side, but the fit would probably be rather tight. I think that you might be better off with the 7200, which is just that little bit bigger. Let me know if you still would like the 7100. Otherwise I will pass it on to the next interested person. carstenw Posted May 23, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted May 23, 2007 Ack, I of course meant that maybe the ACAM/GCAM 7000 is better, not the 7200 which is even smaller.
spylaw4 Posted May 23, 2007 Author Share #15 Â Posted May 23, 2007 Seems about the right size. I'll email the HK source in advance to check stock!
