bill vann Posted May 19, 2007 Share #1  Posted May 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having spinal surgery and will be laid up for some timne.  took all my images 750 gig put them on an external drive and want to edit and order them. got a laptop to work on while i'm bedridden  what will happen to them when i reload this onto the primary desktop i use.  will LR get confused?  or, if i erase the files on the main system and replace them with the entire new "catalog" will it recognize it in its new state with the info generated during the edit and new structuring.  help need to sort asap, surgery on the 30th  kindly  bill vann Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

lesh Posted May 20, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted May 20, 2007 FWIW my undrestanding of the situation is that : Â You can import your files into LR (and leave them in the current location if you wish) but the drawback would be that tyou would lose any edits, or keywords etc etc that you had already worked on. If any edits have been made with LR (perhaps within an older library) you can save the metadata XMP to file. That results in your edits arriving within LR with the image files. I was able to use that successfully when moving some files to a new library.
