Video: Rolling shutter fix

The Leica M has quite severe rolling shutter when used for video. This is caused by the sensor being read out line by line and the bottom lines reaching later than the top lines... This is all well known.

What I am wondering. Why is the sensor not read out in a more random pattern? (lets say, top left pixel then bottom right, then bottom left ...) this would eliminate skew and smear effects somehow in exchange for slightly reduced sharpness. But because video is not captured with the full 24 MP resolution anyway, some sharpness could be gained back while resizing the data for the video format.
