ron110n Posted May 20, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted May 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ron, so your Panny DSLR was the L1, right? So, you shooting much with it yet? How's the results? [/url] Â Hi Dough, Â Here's something quick around the house. The L1 has the same issue with the D2 using the built-in flash. It cut a shadow to the left from the lens hood. Â I don't have an external flash yet, but I was thinking of getting a Metz SCA 3202 M5 Flash module so I can use my Metz 54-MZ4i and Metz 70-MZ5 with the Pana L1K. But on the other hand, the two flash that I mentioned is a "bulk" to carry. Especially the Metz 70-MZ5 is not just a flash, "it's a strobe". Therefore a compact flash with a tilt head might be perfect. Although just adding a Metz 3202 M5 module to both flash that I already have will only cost me $85. Â Well, for a digicam with 7.5 megapix on it, the resolution and image is not bad at all. I'll snap some more tomorrow and on Wed, my Summilux-D 25mm asph will be on the mail. A little more getting used to for my first DSLR... Man it's big... all DSLR are big. Â That's a nice snap of the bike BTW. Besides, I like the bike itself. Guest malland Posted May 20, 2007 Share #22  Posted May 20, 2007 I thought that this thread was about the V-Lux 1: here's a picture taken with this camera:   —Mitch/Bangkok http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
smg_doug Posted May 20, 2007 Author Share #23 Â Posted May 20, 2007 It was about the V-Lux 1, but Ron and I have about 3 discussions going at the same time, lol. Â Nice snap there, Â and Ron, nice shot of that Indian box. Â I'll possibly get a 25 mm down the line Ron (off subject again) if reviews are very good on it. euston Posted May 21, 2007 Share #24  Posted May 21, 2007 Back to the V-Lux 1. Here's a couple from yesterday with good detail and decent colour. For a camera in its class, the V-Lux 1 does colour very well, I think. Welcome, dear visitor! beaudoin Posted May 21, 2007 Share #28 Â Posted May 21, 2007 Hello, Â I'm always going back and forth in what camera I have and what camera I should have. Â Over the past few years, I have had several DSLRs, including a Canon Rebel, then a Nikon D70, then a Lumix L1. But part of me wonders if I wouldn't be better off with an all-purpose camera like the V-Lux 1. You see I do not use an additional lens for any DSLR--and really can't see myself doing such. I like to keep it simple ... I want a camera with a good lens, OIS, without excessive, etc. And I'd really like to have just one camera (that keep it simple thing, again). Â I'm wondering if others feel cramped if they have only V-Lux 1 and if they feel limited in various ways ... (as compared to having a DSLR such as the L1). Â Pardon this rambling commentary, but any thoughts are welcome ... as I try t to work through this all (yet again!). Â Chris
smg_doug Posted May 22, 2007 Author Share #29 Â Posted May 22, 2007 Maybe cramped a little Chris. I have found some things to be a bit more cumbersome to operate than the Nikons I use all the time so far. It's like I have used them so much, I don't have to think for basic operation, and that to me, is part of the definition of a good camera. The V-Lux1 is very capable in it's element. But it takes a bit more effort to me, and forget manual focus, I just don't see that working unless you have very limited light and can use the external LCD. The viewfinder would not work for autofocus for me., it's just to difficult to see. Others may have dissimilar experience. However, the optics, you cannot argue with, simply incredible when it nails one. It rivals any optics I've ever seen digitally speaking. The basic thing I have, is that I just don't know until I load them up exactly what I have gotten, I mean not a clue. Â As seen from the flowers Euston posted though, it can be very supreme in results. In the end, that is what matters. But will the camera be all you want it to be? That each person must determine for themselves perhaps. Â Doug
euston Posted May 22, 2007 Share #30  Posted May 22, 2007 Doug, I was interested to read your comment on manual focus because I've been using it more lately - with those handheld flower photos, for example. The focus ring on the lens is good for anyone used to an SLR, though it is electronic rather than mechanical. I like the way you can magnify a section of the view, either in the viewfinder or on the screen. And I've only recently discovered that you can move the magnified section around to focus on off-centre subjects. This can be especially useful for tripod shots.  I actually use the flip-down screen more than the viewfinder. It enables me to shoot comfortably from waist level or lower, which often gives a better viewpoint than eye height.  But, for me, it is the lens which is the biggest attraction of this camera. Imagine the size and weight of the SLR gear you'd be carrying around to cover its 420mm (equivalent) range. Range plus optical quality. It's a winner. Obviously this camera is not a replacement for an SLR in all circumstances but it's a handy substitute when travelling light. Here's one of my favourite V-Lux 1 photos from last year taken at full zoom. Forgive me if you've seen it before. I show it off at every opportunity. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest malland Posted May 22, 2007 Share #31  Posted May 22, 2007 Can't resist adding another V-Lux 1 picture: still B&W, still at ISO 400, but this time I'm giving in posting a flower picture — seems like most of the V-Lux 1 pictures are flowers and closeups of birds.   —Mitch/Bangkok http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
smg_doug Posted May 22, 2007 Author Share #32 Â Posted May 22, 2007 Euston, keep in mind, I only have 70 snaps on this camera, and have NOT cracked a manual on it, lol. My response is a gut response. You've obviously taken the camera use to a level that I have not. Good for you, and the imagery as you say, is just excellent. In fact, even though I have a L1 ordered, I am having a really tough time cutting this V-Lux1 loose. The image quality is so awesome, it just seems a great cam to have around, even if you don't use it all the time! Agree on that, and I can see where the LCD with it's fold out features attract you. External LCDs can give you more power of perspective, as you can hold cam up high, and still focus and frame too. Â Please don't think I was knocking the V-Lux1, I wasn't, more just nits that I have experienced so far. Also, I did miss a word above, I said autofocus once when I meant manual. I as have you have seem to have, don't get the detail from the projected viewfinder view. Â Beautiful cherry blossem black and white! Â Keep the artistry coming folks. :-) I enjoy it all. Â Oh, that Eagle shot is special Euston! Very very nice. Â Doug
