asabet Posted May 17, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted May 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My brother has an opportunity to get one of these two cameras at a very good price. From what I can tell based on LX1 and LX2 reviews, he should go for the newer model. However, there are some people who say that the older one resolves more detail due to noise reduction benig applied even to the RAW in the newer model. Has anyone here compared the two enough to help with this decision?

mark1958a Posted May 17, 2007 Share #2  Posted May 17, 2007 I posted a similar thread a few days ago and had a link to someone who compared the LX1 and LX2 RAW files. I downloaded 5 examples and the LX2 really did seem to have altered and NR added algorithms that in my mind were not positive because in some images were were smeared in the high noise shadow areas. We tested the LX1 and DLUX2 carefully a year or two ago and found the RAW images to be identical (LX1 vs DLUX2). I have been told the same is true for the DLUX2vs3. The added pixels do not seem to add much in the way of resolution. Personally, i would save 200 and get a panasonic. I would save even more and get the first version that can still be found new.
