Eizo CG223W-BK and alternatives

Hi!

I sold my ultrabook To finance a PC with a proper calibrated screen. As for screen...I found a decent offer for a used Eizo CG223W-BK. The only thing holding me back is its low (1680 : 1050) resolution, but all else seems really good.

The price is within my 450 Euro limit. Are there any alternatives that have higher resolution amd easy calibration?

You might also consider NEC models, e.g., the PA series, etc. While resolution might be higher, you of course need to consider all variables. Both companies offer fine monitors, with the 'equivalent' Eizo typically more expensive. Some come with built in calibration; with NEC, SpectraView is the added built-in software in some models.

I am a strong advocate for Eizo. My first Eizo monitor worked flawlessly for about 7 years, and then it just died. With that in mind, I would try to determine how old the monitor is and how much use it has received. I checked on my existing Eizo. It tells me the time since the last calibration, but I could not find lifetime usage. You might call Eizo technical support and see whether there is some way to get that information from the monitor's internals.

 

Also, I bought my first Eizo as a refurbished monitor directly from Eizo. As I recall, that meant it had been used as a demonstrator or someone sent it back shortly after purchase. It was a great deal in terms of the retail price. You might check to see if they are still running that program.

 

I have heard good things about NEC, but have never used one.
