The SD card is full?

Had a strange glitch today. Backed up shots from my SD card onto an epson P-5000 device. After putting the card back into the camera, I noticed that the counter showed 0 images remaining, and then a message saying SD card full appeared. I know the SD card wasn't full, since it was not full when I removed it from the camera. I then attempted to format the card, which started - but failed to end in reasonable time (yes/no screen showing, light blinking... for a long while). In the end I had to pull the battery to reset the camera, whereapon it correctly recognised the card and I was able to delete the contents and continue shooting.

Later on, I backed up the card again, this time - same problem, but popping the battery did not fix the problem. Putting a different SD card in works fine.

Of course, it may be the SD card... but the epson card reader has no problems with it. Anyone else had a similar problem? I'm a little worried about the camera being flaky.

David.

David,

I would suspect that the card is the flaky element. The fact that your Epson reads it is not a definitive test. Try formatting the card in another device and then retry in the camera, probably needing to format again. If worried, I would not use that card in that camera. Test run the card in another camera if you have one that fits. Always suspect the simplest element first. It's cheaper!:D

David sounds really like a bad card, have a PDA phone throw it in there and get a new card. It happens, myself i would file right under G. I never take any chances here

Took the card out of the GRD, put it into the M8. Worked fine without reformatting (despite being formatted by the GRD last night). Re-formatted in the M8, still workign fine. I will see if the problem is only recurring after I backup the SD card on the epson P-5000. If so - that will be a real pain :p

Outside the box question:

I am not a user of the Epson storage devices. Check the owner's manual to see if it marks the card after it reads the current set of files. Maybe it notes the files it has downloaded and the M8 doesn't recognize that data.
