plasticman Posted May 28, 2007 Share #81 Posted May 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) All i can say is that the labs that i've used here in Stockholm (one of Europe's smaller capital cities) are always fully booked with work - printing from digital or film, they're very, very busy. Almost annoyingly so. I think that film is definitely going to become more of a niche pursuit definitely - but on the other hand, people like myself who've been shooting digital for the last few years and have become disillusioned with it, are going to be moving back to film. So it will become a larger niche, if you follow me. As someone posted above, the whole Lomo and Holga movement is extremely popular, and photographers like Sally Mann are raising the profile of old processes. An exhibition of that photographer's images was the most popular that the Kulturhus here in Stockholm has ever had. Ironically, i think it's the DSLR and pocket P&S market that's gonna find it hardest - they're getting pressed by the phonecams and the videocams. We'll see how it goes for them... MrEd Posted May 29, 2007 Share #82 Posted May 29, 2007 From Wikipedia: Velvia has the highest resolving power of any slide film. When shot with an excellent lens, a 35mm Velvia slide will hold detail equivalent to 25 or more megapixels of image data according to data supplied by Fujifilm (available in the List of photographic films Velvia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ..............so far the odds are still very good for film.......... we may see labs disappearing in first world countries, but let me tell you in 2nd and 3rd world countries film is still King...........just ask a seasoned off the beaten path traveler............. Film is King, Film is King........ .
