Johannes Knightworth Posted May 15, 2007 Author Share #5  Posted May 15, 2007 Steve, yes .... very nice just what I mean, thanks  Richard, will try this tonight... thanks too.  You don't need to do anything with the camera settings ?
Cindy Flood Posted May 15, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted May 15, 2007 Just get a good exposure in the M8. Convert to b&w with your favorite conversion software. (I use C1 to convert my RAW file to B&W.) Use layers and masking along with the Curves tool to lighten and darken to taste.

M8 in lightroom...severely underexposed due to headlights in the meter... Â (Also, this looks a little better when I don't have to shrink it in MS Paint to meet the upload Kb cap --- See here: solsphere )
stunsworth Posted May 15, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted May 15, 2007 Johannes, I used Alien Skin Exposure - the Tri-X setting - and then played with curves a little. That was about it.
Cindy Flood Posted May 16, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted May 16, 2007 I used the demo alien skin exposure plug-in to simulate tri-x. I did dial down the grain because I am not familiar with tri-x and am not crazy about too much grain in a portrait. I put a curve and mask to deepen the shadows around the edges. Johannes Knightworth Posted May 16, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted May 16, 2007 I have downloaded the plug-in andhave played around with it. I am an absolue novice on digital manipulation but after some practice I will master it. I like the grain-effect fact, I love grain and the grain done with the plug-in loks pretty genuine. I printed a couple of 4 x 6 to test and I must say that I am impressed. I think this a good reason to go out and purchase an M8.....
