All of a sudden the subject lens jams and is hard to rotate about 7mm from the locking lug. This happens mounted and unmounted. I searched the forums but found nothing. Any ideas as to the cause and/or fix? Thanks in advance.

How old is this lens? It may need new grease.

1964. Everything was fine with no issue yesterday. Now it gets very stiff at 10 meters and won't lock or go to infinity.

Thanks, Louis

At 51, memory issues may have led it to think it's a DR and your M6, an M9. It needs a colonoscopy too.

Well I seemed to have fixed the issue. I used a compass as a spanner wrench and carefully removed the back ring holding on the focus mechanism. Found a loose screw, replaced it and all is ok now. Yes with age screws can get loose!
