bernie.lcf Posted April 19, 2015 Share #21 Â Posted April 19, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think most of the stuff (except for the viewfinder) can be used on both the X Vario and X(113): hood, lens cap, grip, halfcase, full case (well, the Vario one will fit the X's smaller lens)

jlindstrom Posted April 19, 2015 Author Share #22 Â Posted April 19, 2015 Default lens capsare not interchangeable but hood/grip definitely so. Though officially Leica says there is no hood available for the X113. I've tested mine and in reality it fits both. It's damn expensive, but very nice hood. And the traditional Leica lens cap that comes with the hood is a joy to use. Considering buying a 2nd one for my X113, though need to test it's effectiveness first.. Cases no idea, but most likely they'll fit both.
danmitch Posted April 19, 2015 Share #23  Posted April 19, 2015 Leica Mayfair recommended the Vario hood for my 113, it works well.
bernie.lcf Posted April 20, 2015 Share #24 Â Posted April 20, 2015 Theoretically, the X Vario lens hood is less effective on the X (113) because it is designed for 28mm rather than 35mm. Â Having said that, it's really not that easy. The Summilux is a different lens, opens up wider, different design and construction. We can dive into some kind of a scientific analysis or just check for corner darkness and use it if we are happy with the results. The hood itself is a rather nice metal construction with a traditional slide on cap. You can get a third party copy from JJC without the Leica logo on the cap for about one third the cost. jlindstrom Posted April 20, 2015 Author Share #25 Â Posted April 20, 2015 I'll check out the JJC one definitely. Dark corners are not a problem, that much I've tested it already. More like want to see if it actually helps with anything ie. does itdo what it's supposed to do vs being decoration.
danmitch Posted April 20, 2015 Share #26 Â Posted April 20, 2015 I have always used lens hoods, as much for protection as to improve contrast by limiting some stray light on the lens. On modern coated lenses in most lighting conditions I can't imagine a huge difference, maybe not even a noticeable one - but there are enough scratches and scrapes on the fronts of my older lens hoods to convince me that I am too clumsy / careless to leave the hood off, especially as the lens cap only normally goes on when I put the camera away. bernie.lcf Posted April 20, 2015 Share #27  Posted April 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) What's slightly annoying about the X Vario lens hood is that it seems to be an afterthought rather than something they designed from the beginning on. It is a screw in lens hood - pretty simply, no special mount and the threading did not get any special attention: the logo on the hood will not be on the top when you screw in the hood.  (The Summarit f2.4 has a screw in hood. The hood is rectangular and the thread is designed so that the hood is aligned perfectly when screwed in)  Besides, if you use filters, you'll end up screwing the hood on top of the filter and this is probably going to cause some sort of dark corners at 28mm
