Recent article on Macfilos where Mike Evans X2 had the same issue - he popped it in to a Leica store in London and they resolved the issue.

Sadly, many many XVario owners do not live that near to a Leica Store/Workshop..

Yes I understand that, but it will be possible to send it back for a repair, so should be easily resolved - provided you can live without the camera for a short while.

  • 2 years later...

Bought my (first Leica) Vario last week, the latch broke, and so it went back to the supplier in the UK. (MPB, exemplary service, by the way).

I replaced it with a CL, but was shocked to find that the user setup was, after the simplicity of the XV, fussy and complicated. Knowing that I would, given enough time, master the dials, buttons and menu  - I despaired, and have arranged to send the CL back also.

So - the XV is unmatched in its simplicity, but - can I live with a Leica - a Leica ! with its plastic and vulnerable battery cover? Isn't perfection elusive...
