hm1912 Posted July 31, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2006 Forgive my ignorance, but what are they doing?
gmo Posted July 31, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted July 31, 2006 Ilan, They are "roughing up" the tires in order to get a better grip on the road. The tires are slick tires and when used without the preparation they will need some degradation before they will give sufficient grip on the road. So in order to have the necessary grip right from the start the tires are made a bit rougher beforehand by burning / scraping the top layer. That is what I understood it to be.
