I can slightly move back and forth laterally the part that carries the threads for the hood. Disappointing to say the least. I'm not a muscle head and rarely remove the yellow filter so it's not like the lens front is being constantly torqued by putting on either a filter or the hood. Alas... He might handle the arrangements for you or, if it is very new lens, replace it for you. With reasonable use it should behave as you have described.
