fjmcsu Posted May 13, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted May 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm 75 % through cataloging my entire library in Lightroom. One BIG headache that I am having which I hope to prevent others from having has to do with the maximize compatability option in the PSCSx preferences folder.Years ago(I started with PS 5) when this option became available I read in some "guru" text to NOT check this box for the reason that it made the files larger & for probably some other reason which escapes me now. Subsequent version preferences were kept that way until I upgraded to PSCS3.Well that first reason is not true now with PSCS3 in terms of adding significant size to PSD files.I am now having to go back & re-save ALL PSD files in PSCS3 after checking the maximize compatability box in order to have these files available in Lightroom! So beware & use this feature particularly if you plan to view these files in Lightroom.
Advertisement Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Hi fjmcsu, Take a look here Lightroom , PSD files,PSCSx & max. comp.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted May 13, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted May 13, 2007 It causes a problem in iView media Pro as well. Luckily I found out fairly early on and switched on the compatibility option. Â Couldn't you set up an action to do the open and save?
Shootist Posted May 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted May 13, 2007 I believe the MAX compatibility option stores a flattened version of the image in the same file. That is why the files are so much larger. Also I find it rediculous that "Adobe" lightroom can't read native, layered, smart object, filtered, versions of Adobe's own PSD files. The file has to be flattened before LR can see it. albertknappmd Posted May 13, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted May 13, 2007 I heartily agree with Ed on that last salient point: why didn't Adobe program LR for multilayered files? Let's pray for an early upgrade....
wda Posted May 13, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted May 13, 2007 This discussion becomes more interesting to me as I am just starting my trial demo period. Â My immediate impression of the Home page was of walking into a darkroom with the lights turned off. Only when you import images does the screen take on a normal appearance. However, I find it quite difficult to read some of the darkened text on my calibrated monitor. Has anyone found a way to slightly increase the readability without disturbing calibration? Â Forgive me if I have strayed off course. Â David

I read(cant remember where) that the Max comp option in PSC3 doesn't increase the file size as much as in previous versions if at all. Â Regarding monitor view there are some adjustments that can be made in the preferences area under INTERFACE that might help with the contrast for Fonts but no direct font adjustment . Yes that does seem smaller then with CS2 but the question is why did Adobe not include in LR the ability to read ALL PSD files without using the max compatibility option.
