pascal_meheut Posted September 11, 2006 Share #41 Posted September 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, the lens mount of the body took a hit and now, focusing is not accurate anymore. It happened to me too: never run on wet wood even when at Le Mans :-) You need to send it for repair. It will be long and will cost some money. Advertisement Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Hi pascal_meheut, Take a look here Magnifier for R8/R9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jamie Roberts Posted September 11, 2006 Share #42 Posted September 11, 2006 Pascal-- Thanks for the information. Yikes. Before I spend the time and money to get the body to NJ, is there a good way to test critical focus across the lens set? Brick wall wide open, perhaps? Again, any help is appreciated. pascal_meheut Posted September 11, 2006 Share #43 Posted September 11, 2006 To test, shooting a ruler on a table with some long lens, 100mm or more, the body on a tripod so that the ruler is seen with a 30° angle or so. I focusing on one exact gradation and look at the picture if the DOF is really around it.

Jamie Roberts Posted September 12, 2006 Share #45 Posted September 12, 2006 Pascal-- Your english is just fine, and thanks for the advice! I'm taking the R9 / DMR combo into a shop near Toronto to get it fixed. Thanks again!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 12, 2006 Share #46 Posted September 12, 2006 Sounds like a good plan Jamie, something sounds out of whack there.
pascal_meheut Posted September 12, 2006 Share #47 Posted September 12, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) BTW, I just received my magnifier. Nice craftmanship but magnification is indeed lower than the one I got by adapting a Nikon DK17m on the R9. I took some pictures of the viewfinder with a digital P&S and the difference is around 20%. So, if someone is interested, I will probably sell my Brightscreen magnifier but keep the ProScreen.
rsolomon Posted November 13, 2006 Share #48 Posted November 13, 2006 Now that this device has been out - is everyone happy with this device ? My diopter setting is minus 1 so i am a little concerned. However i do not wear glases - so i don't understand exactly what the setting means
telyt Posted November 13, 2006 Share #49 Posted November 13, 2006 Now that this device has been out - is everyone happy with this device ? I was underwhelmed by its performance. I sent it back; the refund was zero hassle.
rsolomon Posted November 13, 2006 Share #50 Posted November 13, 2006 Now that this device is out in the field, is everyone still happy with it. i do ghave a concern that my diopter is set at -1, however i do not wear glases - so this setting baffles me a bit. should i still expect an addtional -3 needed ? does anyone have a picture of what the viewfinder looks like with the magnifier? thanks
bono0272 Posted November 13, 2006 Author Share #51 Posted November 13, 2006 To me the magnification effect of this device is far behind expectaction. Anyway I just keep it on my R8.

My diopter setting is minus 1 so i am a little concerned. However i do not wear glases - so i don't understand exactly what the setting means Richard: I sent mine back, too. I swear there was zero magnification in the unit, plus I couldn't adjust the diopters (my normal one is -2) to focus it correctly. But like Doug Herr said, no hassle in returning it. 11275 Posted November 15, 2006 Share #53 Posted November 15, 2006 The magnification is barely discernable and of no value to the user (not at all like the pre-release hype suggested), there is corner vignetting and it does NOT work if you need diopter adjustment. Other than that it's great for the money and yes, refunds cheerfully given. Just a total miss! I truley wished it had worked.
roberth Posted November 15, 2006 Share #54 Posted November 15, 2006 I have one of these magnifiers for sale, never used. I bought 2 thinking I could use one on a film R8 but it made opening the back to change film tedious. Contact me if you woudl like to purchase it. mwilliamsphotography Posted November 15, 2006 Share #55 Posted November 15, 2006 I got mine quite awhile ago on Guys' reco. Made all the difference in the world. Doesn't seem to be that much at first glance, but after installing, my ratio of 80/1.4 wide open shots that were in focus increased dramatically. Must have for the fast aperture glass IMO.
