ho_co Posted January 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have an old HP Deskjet 5550 for day-to-day use Have been using HPIJS drivers because HP no longer support this printer and IIRC Gutenprint drivers didn't work With change to OS X Yosemite, printer no longer works, gives error " 'Filter' failed " I understand that Apple implemented Linux 'cups' with Yosemite. I don't know what that means, but think it might indicate that the drivers would function if moved to a new location. Any help getting the printer to work would be appreciated. Thanks. Jeff S Posted January 11, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 11, 2015 This may help (response references HP as well). Jeff

microview Posted January 18, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2015 Jeff--Your sleuthing skills are better than mine! The solution you found solved my problem. Many thanks! That's good! My old HP inkjet 930c is till in fine fettle but the last time I upgraded the OS I found I could no longer access supply levels info . At least the Mac still recognises the printer, albeit 15+ years old.
ho_co Posted January 20, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted January 20, 2015 You're right, the HPIJS drivers don't fetch supply levels, but with the original drivers, the indicated ink levels for the 5550 regularly dropped to 0% well before the ink actually ran out anyway. I've got a newer HP all-in-one which can run out of ink while still showing 1/3 full. Enjoy the 930c! Solid machine!
