I cant see an easy way to attach a filter to the fixed lens ( I don't see a thread) Can't find anything useful on Leica's website either. A bit of googleing turned up various filter tubes or adapters. Can some one help me out ? - correct diameter/ good source ? - I like to use a circular polarizer a lot so this would be a great help -thanks! I'm not sure if I can help, but there's nothing worse than being new and asking a question, and not getting an answer. I have the all original X1. Unless I'm mistaken, the X-E is a newer version of the X2. If the X1 and X2 are the same, or share the same lens surround, then this unscrews. Not sure of the actual thread size, but I can measure mine in the light of day. I bought cheaply an after-market tube, it "replaces" the lens surround, and provides a filter thread at the front, I recall mine being 52mm. A quick look at the bay shows me this sort of thing. There are a number of after-market tubes (e.g. Kiwi) that will screw on and allow a filter to be attached to the front end of the tube. A tube is need to allow the lens to extend inside the tube. A lens hood can also be screwed onto the filter. IIRC the filter/hood size is 49mm - a standard Leica size - I don't have my X-2 any more although I do have the tube etc. somewhere.
