hm1912 Posted July 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm heading up to Edinburgh in August to see Jim Henson's Muppets perform at the Fringe Festival. Going to bring my camera of course, but I've also got some black and white negatives that I want to get developed. Any of you guys know of any place in Edinburgh that can develop black and white prints, and that isn't Jessops? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Hi hm1912, Take a look here Edinburgh. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted July 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 30, 2006 Not C41, I assume? Have you thought about doing it youself? It's not hard, in fact its very easy, and an initial set-up will cost you around £50 - £100. The cost of having someone else process your films could reach that easily. You'd have to go to a pro-shop, who would do it by hand.
hm1912 Posted July 30, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted July 30, 2006 Hi Andy, not C41. I generally do my own developing at the university (although I pay for the use of the dark room, £25 for a membership and then £1.50 per hour. It's not the best, but I really can't set up my own dark room, being a student and all and having to move fairly regularly. I could theoretically set one up in the bathroom of where I live now, but I can't afford it -- especially since I would have to get rid of everything in about a year. Before I did my own developing, when I was a student in London, I used to go to GG Lewis to get my photos developed. They did a good job and I though at a reasonable price. andybarton Posted July 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 30, 2006 You don't need a darkroom, just to process your negatives, though. I do mine in the utility room.
hm1912 Posted July 30, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted July 30, 2006 That's very true. But then I'd stil have to print them out, which gets me back to the dark room problem. For a few pounds I can develop them myself in the university dark room, but my interest right now is to get a bunch of prints (not just developed negatives) and I don't have the time right now for enlarging. So say I develop them myself, then what? I hold on to the negs for a few months.....

hm1912 Posted July 31, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted July 31, 2006 Thanks Uwe. Prices seem to have gone up in the last few years. Andy: no, unfortunately I don't have a scanner.
uulrich Posted August 9, 2006 Share #9 Posted August 9, 2006 Thanks Uwe. Prices seem to have gone up in the last few years. Andy: no, unfortunately I don't have a scanner. Have you tired one or both of the labs? Are there any results handy? I'm also keen to know how their work may look like. Perhaps we can share a pint when you are 'up here'. hm1912 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted August 9, 2006 Uwe, I haven't gone up yet. I'm leaving on Saturday. Meeting could be fun, even more so if there is some photography involved.
