I'm a Sony user but have that itch to move to Leica.

Have read many reviews and pages about the X1 and X2 and still undecided.

I have seen a nice X1 package with optical viewfinder, case and grip and very tempted, but just thought it would be good to get some experienced opinions as to whether I should be holding out for an X2.

Thanks!

Apparently, there is no discernible difference in IQ between the X1 and X2. For that reason, I probably would have been perfectly satisfied with the X1. However, the improvement in focus speed, a secondary consideration for me, was enough to persuade me to get the X2. That's just the way I am.

I have the X1 and love it, but having said that you can't really go wrong with either I feel.

There is a slight difference in Mp count between them if I'm it wrong, slight, but definite?

I also have the X Vario, but will sell this, I like the simplicity of the X1, and am also shooting more M6 these days, so the X Vario is sitting less used.

Creo, welcome to the forum and Leica ownership. I have owned the X1 since it was first launched and still use it regularly, despite adding an X Vario. Its performance and compact size leads to it being the regular companion when photography is not on my agenda (shopping, business etc). On travel, it is often insurance when I need assured reliability away from home.

It is simple, rugged and reliable. Master its controls and work within its limits. Its 36mm equivalent focal length lens meets most of my everyday needs. With a compact table tripod, it is very capable indoors with static or inclusive people pictures. Make use of its operational presets. Enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback.

I have taken the plunge on the X1.

Its a start!

The X1 is a great start! I started with the Minilux, a really fine film camera. The X2 is sort of a replacement for the Minilux, which was stolen in a burglary. The Minilux hooked me on the Leica image quality, and I supplemented it with an M6 and M2. I haven't ventured into the interchangeable lens digital cameras yet, due to money considerations, but I am convinced that Leica is the way to go.
