I've made 3 trips there in the last few months dropping off my lenses for 6 bit coding. I live in NY about a 35 minute drive to Allendale. I took some photos in the parking lot I should post one (Leica Logo parking spaces).

One good thing about the NY metro area, I have been able to drop lenses, cameras etc at Nikon, Leica, MAC Group (Profoto) in person.

what was their turn around time for coding?

Ditto...

Dropped off a few things at Nikon in Long Island. Very convenient indeed. And now that I've heard from this thread that you can just pop in at Leica NJ, I'm going to pay them a visit to adjust for backfocusing and maybe get a few lenses coded :)

It took about two and a half weeks each time I dropped off my lenses. I first left my 21 elmarit and 50 nocti, then 35 cron and 24 elmarit and they now have my 75 lux. The hours are supposed to be 9-12 for drop off but they told me they are usually available until 2 but I would call first if going late.

In fairness to Leica USA I shall report my experience of today and I hope it helps one of you in the future. In desperation, after phone calls, emails and faxes I finally got a hold of Robert Fisk today. He was like a breath of fresh air. When I asked for the status on my camera he was actually willing to take the time to look it up and informed me that they were shipping me a replacement as mine was being sent to Solms for engineering evaluation of the failures. He then offered me the UPS tracking number, though he said it wouldn't leave until later today. I thanked him for the information and then made a terrible mistake by hanging up without asking if it was going overnight Saturday Delivery. As quickly as I hung up I called back and spoke to Brenda. I should have asked for Robert back but I didnt want to bother him so I asked her if she would mind changing the shipment to overnight Saturday delivery and they could either charge my UPS account or I would provide a credit card for payment for the extra charge. She hemmed and hawed about how they had so many boxes that it would be hard to find it but she would look and call me back. (Note. Neither she nor Sarah ever seem to actually call back, well Sarah did once but without any information.) I waited for an hour and called her again. She said it was too hard to find it and she wasn't sure if UPS had picked up yet or not. I asked if she would call UPS and change it from 2 day to overnight Saturday delivery as otherwise it would mean that I would have to take a day off work to be home to sign for the package and if it was still there to please change it. Well she never called back. It does not appear that anything has been changed on the shipment and they are now closed.

The lesson is deal with Robert he seems to be much more willing to actually do something. The ladies appear to want to do as little as possible, at least that has been my experience. YMMV

John--

You just can't seem to understand that they are a small company. Brenda has no responsibility for shipping; asking her or Robert to do something about shipping is intrusive and out of place. If the camera is already packaged, there's not much they can do, is there? If you have a UPS account, you could contact UPS yourself.

You're not satisfied until you've got something to complain about. They're replacing your camera, using it as a guinea pig to try to keep others from the same difficulties, and instead of saying "Hot dawg, I've got a new camera coming," you ask someone to do something out of her realm of responsibility and then complain that she didn't do it.

Your continual complaining is becoming obnoxious.

I hope you get the camera and I sincerely hope it works. It is unpleasant, as you said, to go through the frustrations you have. But there's no use always seeking someone to blame.

Respectfully,

--HC

H.C.

Give me a break. I have run a small company and we never treated our customers as caviliarly and we were selling a $50 product not a $5,000 one. I don't know if you are a pro photographer but I'll bet if you treated your customers the way Leica seems to at times you wouldn't have much business and you wouldn't be in business long.

You further display your ignorance in that it doesn't matter whether you have a UPS account or not (and I do) only the shipper can change anything about the shipment both before and after it is shipped. One of those UPS policies that doesn't make sense. Finally, if they are so small what is the big deal about walking the small distance to shipping and grabbing the package and changing it. Yes, I will be happy to get back my camera but a 3 month old camera shouldn't need repair to start with so I don't need to kiss the Leica ground because they are sending me a replacement. Now you can go back to your official duty as a Leica appologist.

Direction Signs to Leica

Oskar Barnack Strasse - Some pruning required, reads: "Oskar Barnack 1879 - 1936, inventor of the Leica"

The Leica factory... makes me wonder if I was caught on tape by the CCTV camera. "These crazy Englishmen..."

Does make you wonder that if Leica do move to Wetzlar or elsewhere whether they will drop the name "Oskar Barnack Strasse". Bit pointless if all it leads to is a pea canning factory...

Great shot showing Metz in one direction, Leica in the other and a dead-end in between. Food for thought! :)

(I had no idea the companies were so near each other.)
