This thread is to welcome the new users of the Leica Camera User Forum, and to encourage you lurkers out there to make yourself heard. I'm going to ask only those Forum members with TEN POSTS or LESS to post here. And I promise to delete any comments from the rest of us so you guys and gals (and I know you're out there) get a chance to meet each other without feeling embarrassed or intimidated by the more senior of us here.

So, get with it!!!

Thanks Allan,

I have been a Leicaphile for many years, and spent 11 magic years working in Berlin as a Photo journalist - amazing as I was there up to and including the "Fall of the Wall", a true photographers paradise, and still is with it's incredible buildings and mixed and diverse cultures.

I sold my M6 about two years ago, missed it so much that I searched for a replacement and managed to buy an M6TTL .85 in black with top cover engraving, beautiful camera and with the 28/50 & 90 lenses, I am once more a happy camper.

I must admit that since getting another M6, I am tending to shoot as much analogue film as digital images ( I have missed that magical Leica quality). It is great to be back, and thank you for providing a source of inspiration, information and communication on all things leica.

Not sure if I want to enter into the M8? debate, digital has it's place as does analogue so must wait and see, I would have to wait a loooooooong time before I could afford one anyway!

Regards

Ian (Cirencester, England)

I just made my 10th post this AM. Frankly I forgot about this forum, but have returned recently to my absolute delight.

The level of much work posted here is quite inspiring, and for me that's reason enough to return on a more regular basis.

I primarily do wedding work and personal street photography, partly with Leicas. Have a Black M7 I use at weddings and a chrome MP3 for my personal "manual" camera ... with lenses from 28/2 to 135/3.5.

I also use a R/9 DMR with an array of R glass.

My wedding web site is: http://www.fotografz.com for anyone wishing to check it out.

Great forum IMO.

Well thanks for the welcome. I have just obtained my first ever Leica - an M6 with a 50mm Summicron. I am enjoying using a rangefinder after years of only using SLRs in different formats. I simply cannot believe what I have been missing for all these years! This forum is steadily growing on me as I browse more and more - thanks for being here .:D

Well, <10 posts in this iteration.

It seems that this is getting off to a slower start than the old forum; but that's not a problem. I was getting tired of the repetitive thoughts there.

I gather we can't post pictoral responses in this room, so naturally it will be duller.

So for those of you with a voyeur mien, here's a chance: Photos by OCULUS NEW YORK

Not many Leica shots compared to other pieces of equipment; see if you can pick them out.

Your thoughts are welcomed.

Cheers,

LOL!

:D

Well, you were not exactly who I was thinking of when I posted this Ray...but I suppose you are allowed on the technicality of post number.

Marvelous, wonderful, photos in your gallery...Leica or not. They inspire me to get out with my camera tomorrow and get back to work.

What do you mean, Ray? Of course you can post images, provided they're within the rules.

Thanks for the invite Allan. I've been away from the Forum for a number of months, during which I took a couple of classes at ICP and worked on a new website. I recently posted a link to a documentary project I've been working on. Here's a link to my website for anyone interested; click on "Richard Stack" to view the documentary slideshow (broadband connection recommended): David Sellers, Photography

Allan, I remember viewing your many beautiful architecture shots & look forward to seeing more!

I will. I bought an M6 TTL with a 35mm F2.0 a couple of weeks ago, loaded it up with HP5 and Efke 25 and took it along with me to Ireland. I'm still waiting to order some developer and do the development but I'm looking forward to it and seeing the results. The camera is an absolute delight to use and I'm glad to have finally been able to join in the Leica community.

BTW, I also use a Nikon F6 and aMamiya 645 Pro TL.

Hi

I'm a newbie and finding my feet on using the forum and using Leica.

My grandfather believed in Leica and I took the big step to follow his beliefs and got a R9 with DMR.

I am now experimenting and can not seem to get the B setting to work for time exposures, I can not find anything on this in the manual or on the internet. Could someone please help a very stupid user? Is it possible to do time exposures with the DMR? If so how? If not why not?

Please help

Thanks

Hi Arthur - welcome to the forum! I hope I'm not saying anything too obvious that you've already tried, but when you select 'B' the shutter will only stay open while the shutter button is pressed. Release the pressure and the shutter will close.

You can use a cable release to make sure the camera remains stable while the shutter is active.

Hi Steve

thank you. Initially I thought that was my problem but no I do not get any response whatsoever! i.e there is no shutter movement at all, no mirror movement, I even tried the cable and thought that it could be programmed to only respond to pressure from a cable release.

If I released the shutter release to soon I would at least have heard a click but the shutter release buttons (all three) only depress with no response whatsoever:confused:

I hope someone has had simmilar problems or could tell me where I am going wrong :)

Regards

Arthur

Hi,

Recently I upgraded from a Minilux to a CM. I did not yet had very much time to try out the different flash settings. Already have set the CM with flash disabled as default. Is there someone who can explain the difference in result when using shutter speeds slow and 2nd slow? I have also the possibility of using the SF24D external flash.

Many thanks

Roger

Hi!

I am a newbie also.

I just bought a 50mm f2.8 Elmar-M (current version) and am going to buy a vintage M.

I mostly will choose M4 because it is the latest mechanical M produced in Wetzlar.

And its 072X viewfinder is important to me because I am a glasses wearer.

However, if the price is too high, I may choose a M2 instead.

Any comments? :)

Wow!

I'm encouraged that you guys (and girls out there just waiting to join in!) have been using this thread to hop on board.

Just one note, that I made explicit notation that this thread is only for you; so your more technical questions probably deserve a post on the main Forum where everyone can take a shot at answering them. Take the plunge and jump on in! The water's fine!

Keep it up rookies!!!

Thanks.

Allan
