The lens comes with a certificate showing the serial number and the manufacturing date. Mine did. If you are receiving a lens that was ordered before the the price increase to lock in the old price you are getting a new one. If they had a supply of the old ones they would have shipped them long ago. There is still a long waiting list I understand.

BTW, this is an absolutely stunning lens. Beautiful colors and clarity! Other than crop and straighten little processing is needed from the DNG files.

I remember that Rick and I got our APO 50/2 at nearly at the same time. In fact mine was the first to be sold in the US and I never experienced the flare issues Rick posted on this site. To me this indicates that there was a huge vaiance in lenses sold during the "first" batch.

It also makes me wonder how stringent the QC process was on these lenses since Rick's lens should never have left the factory as shipped to his dealer.

According to Leica's CEO there were four separate issues...

"Well after some problem solving we found 4 minor issues, and manufacturing was stopped for 3 weeks and will recommence next week. For current owners experiencing any issues, they should send their lens to Germany for a complete refurbish."

Interview with Leica Camera CEO, Alfred Schopf — Kristian Dowling

He did not say if any of the four were design issues or manufacturing issues. Various rumor websites claimed there were out of spec coatings on one one the lens elements and/or there was a design change to add blackening to the inside of the barrel. So far I haven't seen corroboration of either of those rumors.

But I agree with the sentiment that the OP has nothing to worry about. The inventory pipeline was dry for a long time. Any lenses from the first batch were flushed out of it long ago.

I would like to say that when my copy was shot in any situation that did not induce flare to my particular copy, it was stunning. A year ago algrove sent me files from his copy (which was an earlier one) and they were perfect. Get a new copy and I'm pretty sure you will be fine. And to Leica's credit, they did solve the problem and will fix any of the earlier lenses that have this problem. So, I guess, who cares. They can and will fix any of the earlier lenses that have the problem. Buy any of them.
