gwelland Posted May 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2007 Do you have to push the frameline lever over only when the lens is put on the camera or you power up the camera? Or, do you have to do this everytime you take a shot?
ho_co Posted May 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2007 Wow, Jorge! Nice work, and a lot of patience. Have you considered contacting Zeiss about replacing the bayonet to key the same frames as the WATE? I don't know whether that's possible, but there's another thread here in which someone was sussessful in getting Zeiss to send him the correct bayonet to let the M8 see his Zeiss 25 as the Leica 24. I don't know what frameset the WATE brings up on the M8 (28 & 90, I guess), but it might be worth checking with Zeiss to see if they can send you the 'proper' bayonet to do the same. That way the camera would see the lens as the WATE without your intervention. When you mount the lens, does the camera immediately bring up the menu option of 16/18/21, or does it do so only when you press the frame preview lever? And does it then remember that setting when you're ready to shoot? --HC
Guest leicawanabe Posted May 9, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 9, 2007 I have an email in to Zeiss for another mount. Unfortunately I did not ask about a 25mm bayonet. The size and angle of the black dot is extremely critical in getting the camera to recognize it.The slightest shift in position results in failure. Now that I know what to do now, I made 3 extra stickers with the appropriate dot. It only took about 12 to get the 3. I will be making a litho of an existing bayonet to have a reliable template. The template provided on this forum did not work for me. I will post pictures in the next few days of how the stickers that I made look. Very primitive but it works. As far as frame lines go, I mount the lens with the power off. I push the frame selector lever in towards the lens and hold it down while I power up the camera. The menu then displays. When I power off the camera and turn it back on with the frame lever pushed, it seems to remember I selected 16mm the previous time. But remember, I have to have the frame lever pushed before powering up The only draw back is that there is now a minial shim added to one side of the lens with the sticker. However, it is thin enough to not throw the focus off. The image sample I did where shot at 5.6 and they seem pretty sharp edge to edge. Since I have two M8's I will leave the 15 on one of them most of the time. It is no bigdeal since I really like that angle. JT
JL2006 Posted May 9, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 9, 2007 Wow that's great news JT. What 72mm IR-cut filter are you using for the ZM15 ? Pls post some pictures on how the hand-coding is done; thanks a million.
gogopix Posted May 9, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 9, 2007 Yes. The 15mm has a center filter for vignetting anyway. I assume you used that? But for the magenta issue, which IR cut was used? the helopan? B+W? can't be Leica, I dont think they will have a 72mm All said they are terrific images. I need to dust my 15mm off! regards
