calithumpian Posted November 3, 2014 Share #21 Posted November 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just tested it with shutter speed dial set to Auto (aperture priority), and no it does not work as the camera seems to calculate the exposure and the shutter immediately prior to shooting in that mode. But if you dial up the shutter speed manually, it does work!

calithumpian Posted November 3, 2014 Share #23 Posted November 3, 2014 just to reiteratein manual mode you can go to 1.7, just not in A or P ? Yes, that's correct. This only works in manual mode where Aperture and Shutter dials are not on A. This is because the camera does a recalculation of exposure in both priority modes immediately prior to the shot being taken which it does not do it fully manual, this recalculation naturally takes the camera back down to the 'safe' aperture at that distance (eg f/2.8 at 25cm) Has anybody else been able to repeat this discovery? Yes, this works. However, the risk of overexposing @1.7 requires do underexpose as the camera will meter the scene for a slower lens speed.
wda Posted November 15, 2014 Share #26 Posted November 15, 2014 ... The issue for me is how Leica chose to describe the lens. In my opinion, describing it without qualification as a Summilux 1.7 may, arguably, be technically correct but it is deceptive.... I always thought that the label 'Summilux' referred to lenses only with a maximum aperture of f/1.4.
