wizard Posted August 1, 2006 Share #21 Â Posted August 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pascal, that's interesting, as my experience is just the contrary! My 4/90 is tack sharp, contrasty and renders vivid colors. My 2/40 is also very sharp and has a very high resolution, but it lacks contrast compared to the 4/90, and colors are not rendered as vivid. When projecting slides, I can clearly see the difference. Â Then again, my lenses are the Minolta ones (I bought them together with my CLE), not the Leica C-series, but they seem to be very similar if not identical in optical and mechanical construction. Â Best, Â Andreas
Advertisement Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Hi wizard, Take a look here Leica CL. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Metroman Posted August 1, 2006 Share #22  Posted August 1, 2006 Well I bought it. It really is in amazing condition even the rubber hood is is OK. Have ordered a Weincell and hopefully I will be able to run a film through this weekend and get to see how it really works.  Pascal  Thank you for the advice. I had already found your page when I did some research over the weekend and found it most helpful. This CL has the Summicron-C 40/2.0 and will suit my purposes perfectly.  Checking the serial number it was made in the first year of production.  I will book it into CRR - just up the road from me - and let them give it a service and whatever else needs doing.  Overall I am rather smitten with this camera, is a nice size, a good weight and will complement my D2 nicely and fit in the same bag.  Thanks to everyone for their advice, much appreciated. palaeoboy Posted August 2, 2006 Share #24  Posted August 2, 2006 how does one tell the difference? mine has the serial number close to the base of the lens, just after the 'made in japan'. filter size is 40.5 and it's called an m-rokkor. it is definitely multi coated.   There 2 Minolta 90mm f4 Rokkors. One for the Leitz Minolta CL and the other for the CLE. The version made for the Leitz Minolta CL is identical in optics to the Elmar-C and is clearly marked "Made by Leitz" on the front. The CLE version which is the one Joe has is the CLE version and is marked made in Japan. The CLE lenses always have the serial number on the barrel near the mount rather than on the front ring like CL lenses. Although both versions share a similar 4 element design, they are slightly different optically. The later CLE version has more even center to end resolution at the slight expense of center resolution compared with the Elmar-C and first Rokkor. Guest Metroman Posted August 23, 2006 Share #25  Posted August 23, 2006 Just to round off the story. Ran a couple of test films through at last - been waiting for my new Epson V750 Pro scanner.  Dusted off the Jobo CPE 2 and have been pleasantly surprised. The meter is dodgy but using my trusty Weston think I got a result.  I literally just processed and scanned - with no other processing by software - to see just what I had.  The first image is taken with the camera's meter all others with the Weston. Rather than clutter up the forum I have them on my test site  I am going to send her off to Leica Repair & Restoration for a new cell, full overhaul and some TLC.  I am totally smitten with this little camera and once again thank you all for the advice.  I do not want an MP...I do not want an MP...I do not want an MP...I do not want an MP...
