grober Posted May 9, 2007 Share #21 Posted May 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Canon 28/2.8 screwmount is very "1950's" and physically tiny to boot. I had one, loved but sold it in favor of the 28/1.9 Ultron. I appreciate the extra speed of the Ultron. Yes, the Ultron is big then but sometimes whilst shooting exclusively indoors, I cheat and use it without it's obstructing lenshood. If you find a good Canon 28/2.8, buy it but send to a reliable repair source for a CLA before using it. Ergonomically speaking, its small focus lever can be hard to use unless it has been recently serviced and properly lubricated. One note: the Canon 28 needs Series VI filters so you must haunt old camera shops and paw through their general debris to find its very rare retaining ring in size 40.5mm. I found one in the University district of Seattle at Jim's Used Cameras. (I haven't a clue if the necessary IR-cut filters are available in Series VI.) One final note: Canon also made a 25/3.5 lens of similar conmstruction to the 28/2.8. The 25mm is even tinier! -g

tbarker13 Posted May 9, 2007 Author Share #22 Posted May 9, 2007 The crazy thing is, I had one of those canon 28s. I have a disease where I keep reorganizing my lens kit, trying to find the elusive perfect combination. I've decided to essentially think of my kit as two distinct sections: 1) Modern: 28 summicron, 50 lux asph, 15cv and 75cv 2) Classic: 50 sonnar/50 rigid, 35 summicron (4th) and some sort of 28. I really liked the canon, and feel pretty silly now about selling it. I was wondering if there might be another alternative - but I am increasinly leaning toward re-acquiring a canon 28.
