Nick_S Posted October 6, 2014 Share #21 Â Posted October 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) As it's "just for fun", I would choose either Option 4: 35mm ASPH and 50mm Summicron lenses or perhaps Option 5: splash out and add the 50mm Apo-Summicron to the 35mm ASPH. Â Reason: I really like the super quality in the minimalist physical size, while the F2.0 maximum aperture is one I am used to with these focal lengths and that I like. A single 39mm filter size across the lenses is also nice for use with the Monochrom. Â Nick

pgk Posted October 6, 2014 Share #22 Â Posted October 6, 2014 And the point about effectively getting a faster lens with the 35 lux vs 50 is really marginal and depends on the camera to be used. With the MM, for example, it doesnt matter. When you need it, speed matters. If you don't have it you can't use it. I often shoot wide open for various reasons and there is nothing marginal about fast lenses when you need them.
A miller Posted October 6, 2014 Share #23 Â Posted October 6, 2014 From 35 to 50, it's like less than half of a stop. Pretty marginal, and de minimis with the ISO capability of the MM. From 28 to 50 is about a full stop faster, which begins to have real meaning.

In general, lens speed is a consideration, although it's importance is, obviously, hugely variable.

A miller Posted October 6, 2014 Share #26 Â Posted October 6, 2014 How do you figure this? Â My initial comment addressed a comment that the 35 is faster b/c it can be held at a slower shutter. Conventional wisdom would have this at 1/35 vs 1/50 (1/the focal length as a minimum speed to avoid motion blur), which is a difference of 1/15, which is about half of a full stop above 1/35 (a full stop above 1/35 being 1/70). algrove Posted October 6, 2014 Share #27 Â Posted October 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) To me it depends on how you see things. Some prefer the 35 and others the 50. Whichever you prefer, then get that lens in 1.4 and the other in 2.0 Â Since I see scenes (Where I might use a 35 or 50) better in 35 so then the 50 is the APO50. otto.f Posted October 6, 2014 Share #28 Â Posted October 6, 2014 Definitely option 1 because the FLE is outstanding, full of character and 35 is slightly more being used than 50. I would be able to cut on expenses with the brilliant Elmar 50 instead of the btw lovely cron

Agree because the FLE is sooo beautifil in color rendition, as is the lux50 but I prefer the FLE in 'saturday night life'
CheshireCat Posted October 6, 2014 Share #30 Â Posted October 6, 2014 Option 6: - Summilux 50 - Zeiss 35/1.
Printmaker Posted October 6, 2014 Share #31 Â Posted October 6, 2014 Probably option 2. Â I have 35 and 50 Summicrons and am very happy with both lenses. But if I had to exchange one for a Lux, it would be the 50. My reasoning is that I mainly use the 50 focal length to photograph people where the size and weight of the lens is of little concern, so why not go for a little extra background blur and extra sharpness in the eyes and hair? My 35 Summicron is a type 4 and is so light and small that it lives on my camera. I don't think I'd want to exchange this walkabout lens for anything larger. Speed is not all that important. Â But I'm not about to change anything right now as my savings account is slowly building up for a 120 Summarit for my S2.
otto.f Posted October 7, 2014 Share #32 Â Posted October 7, 2014 I would never buy two lenses at once btw, only when I started with a new system, which I won't.
01af Posted October 7, 2014 Share #33  Posted October 7, 2014 Assume you will get a new 35 mm and 50 mm lens. Which combination would you choose? Option 1:  Summicron-M 50 mm 1:2 Summilux-M 35 mm 1:1.4 Asph  Option 2: Summilux-M 50 mm 1:1.4 Asph Summicron-M 35 mm 1:2 Asph New take!?  Either option is reasonable. Depends on your subjects and your shooting style. Those who tend to use a 35 mm indoors more often and a 50 mm lens more often outdoors, option 1 would be preferred, as the indoor lens will be used in poor light more often than the outdoor lens. Those who will use both lenses equally often hand-held in low light may prefer option 2, as the longer lens needs faster shutter speeds to avoid blur from camera shake.  Does the indoor/outdoor use pattern appeal to you? Option 1 is for you. Or does the "faster speeds for longer lens" mantra make more sense to you? Then choose option 2.  This has been discussed ad nauseam for years ... freitz Posted October 8, 2014 Share #34  Posted October 8, 2014 Option 3  Both Summilux used. If not possible  I would start with 35 FLE (thats what I am doing) and wait for the 50 Summilux (but am heavily leaning towards waiting longer and getting the APO or Noct. depending on what I think I need)
