indergaard Posted November 6, 2016 Share #41 Posted November 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) At infinity the lens is also much sharper at f5,6 than f8,0 in the centre. In the corners it is sharper at f8,0, but overall I prefer f5,6. I really like this lens. There are no obvious faults like focus shift and flare. It is cheap and you can have it in silver for the same price and weight as a black one. It has the same length as a Summicron, but it is fatter (E39 vs E43 filter). Thanks. I used one for a week or so, and I really enjoyed the ergonomics of it. The size and weight is perfect. I only used it with film though, so I can't really judge it's technical merits as well as I could if I used it on digital. But the results were great. The colors I got in combination with Fuji Pro 400h film was extremely satisfying. My wife has the Zeiss 35mm Biogon in silver with her silver MP (analog), and the lens is stunning, and I actually think the ergonomics are better than on my 35mm Summicron ASPH for my hands - especially with gloves on. The Biogon is one of my favorite lenses, especially with B&W film. I haven't tried it on digital. I've ordered a Planar 50, and will be returning the Summicron 50 non-asph I was trying out tomorrow. The focus shift is very noticeable on digital. And I don't want to have to think about compensation for it differently for every f-stop. The other option would be the APO-Summicron 50/2. But honestly, I think it's priced way, way, way too high for what it is, and especially for what I need. All I would want is the current non-asph Summicron 50 improved with modern coatings, eliminate focus shift, and keep the same weight and size and ergonomics, cause the lens is perfect as it is, except the focus shift. But instead the replacement is a $7800 behemoth that requires perfect shooting technique and rangefinder calibration at all times. And the floating lens elements can more easily get knocked out of alignment, while a "classic" lens can take a lot more beating before it develops calibration error.
