quarth Posted May 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) All - This should be an easy one... my understanding is there is a negligible difference (if any at all) between the Leica 39mm filter and the B+W filter on the CV15. I read in one thread that the Op had used "B+W UV-IR Cut filter 39mm x 0.5 part number 1014112". But, when I look on BHPhotoVideo, I see three options... curious as to which the 'right' one is. UV, Haze & Protection - Lenses & Accessories B+W - 39mm UV Haze 010 (MRC) Multi-Resistant Coating Glass Filter ($40) B+W - 39mm UV Haze 010 Glass Filter ($25) B+W - 39 mm UV-415 UV-Blocking Glass Filter ($47) Thanks!! Advertisement Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Hi quarth, Take a look here Which 39mm UV filter for the CV15?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted May 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 6, 2007 Mark, none of them :-). You should be looking for a 486 filter. The first two on your list are standard UV filters, they won't reduce the amount of IR that causes the magenta problem.
sean_reid Posted May 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 6, 2007 I'll be testing soon but the current working hypothesis is that the 39 mm Leica IR-cut filter will be slightly preferable to the 486 filter on the CV 15. Cheers,

It looks like Adorama has the B+W IR filter in stock... does this look correct? 65019751 B + W 39mm Digital Pro UV/IR Blocking #486 Glass Filter for Blocking Ultra Violet and Infrared Radiation
stunsworth Posted May 6, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 6, 2007 Yup, that's the one.
sean_reid Posted May 6, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 6, 2007 That will probably be the next best thing to the Leica filter.

Cheers, Nuts, Sean. I'd happily pay the premium, but don't see anywhere these are in stock. I am currently awaiting on Leica to deliver my free 46 and 55, so the only one I still need is the 39 for my CV15. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether the 46 or 55 might be holding up my order from Solms? I would happily switch one of those out if it would get my free filters here faster, but acording to BHPhotoVideo (and I don't know where else to look), the only Leica IR filters currently in stock at this time is a silver 39 (really would rather the black, but if push comes to shove, I can order this one). Lasted I checked with Solms, I was told my filters would ship in the "22nd calendar week", which I suppose is around the first week of June. I leave on a year-long trip the 3rd week of June, so I'm anxious to get these in my hands soon!
gesper Posted May 6, 2007 Share #8 Posted May 6, 2007 I bought a black one a couple of weeks ago from B&H, and PopFlash had them as well. I am sure if you are patient, you could get one soon.
harmsr Posted May 7, 2007 Share #9 Posted May 7, 2007 Get the Leica filter. When hand coding the lens as the WATE and using the IR filter, the Leica filter does correct nicer than the B+W. Best, Ray
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 7, 2007 Share #10 Posted May 7, 2007 From what i seen from some tests the leica 39mm looks like it cleans up slightly better on the 15mm, I would certainly get the leica 39mm filter here and be done with it. They were available but B&H and Popflash maybe out at the moment i would call Sean at Camera west or Tamarkin, Photo Village and such . David at Dale is in Phx. at the moment and going to hook up with him today or tomorrow and i will see if he has any in stock. I have a leica 39mm sitting here if anyone has a 49mm i will certainly trade them for it also. i also would imagine today being Monday and a container may have come in last week that today or tomorrow the shipments should be hitting the retailers, so call around. And yes hand code it for the WATE no question there
