alan.y Posted September 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I'm curious about whether the aforementioned, very affordable Contax 645 lenses are worthwhile adapted to the Leica S sensor (character and artistic qualities notwithstanding). There seems little information about them. If you have experience with them on an S, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks. I have read this thread: http://www.getdpi.com/forum/medium-format-systems-digital-backs/46286-contax-645-lenses-leica-s-2.html
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Hi alan.y, Take a look here Contax 645 45/2.8, 140/2.8 on Leica S? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
peterv Posted September 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2014 Alan, that thread is the best info about this subject on the whole internet Not much else to be found. James Russel AKA bcooter over at LuLa uses the S2 with his Contax lenses and he really likes the results. You can do a search for bcooter and find his comments about this combo. darylgo Posted September 20, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 20, 2014 Alan, the 45mm and 140mm will render beautifully on the Leica S platform. The 55mm and 120 Macro will be sharper. My copy of the 140mm is phenomenal for portraits, not as good as the 120mm Macro for landscapes. When I shoot the Zeiss lenses they are all beautiful, it is only when I carefully compare and scrutinize on a pixel level do I see differences but when I shoot with them they are all outstandingly good and match well to the Leica sensor. That Leica has made an adapter with faster autofocus speed than the native Contax 645 and the ability to use the Zeiss lenses just as the Leica S lenses is a real bonus.
