PdtPhotography Posted August 4, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Been a silent reader of this forum for a while. After reading your comments , opinion, reviews, I finally jumped and bought the M240 here in HK and I have to say, I absolutely love this camera! It's amazing, easy to use and versatile, all I was looking for. Because of all these opinions and comments, you guys made me do that (and my wife probably doesn't know it but she would hate you if she did!) and I am now a happy man! I did a small write up of my impression here for those who are thinking about making the jump Pdtphotography - Asia seen by a Gwailo Bottom line is I love it (but will still keep my DSLR for specific purpose). Will now be on this forum more often but not too much as what I like is being out there playing with this amazing tool! So thank you all for your advice, opinions. I have read most of them with a lot of attention and it definitely helped me take that (good) decision!

It is a great feeling when you open a camera, take a first few shoots and run to see a result on a bigger screen! I have experienced this few weeks ago, and was super pleased. But I sold all my DSLR equipment and now choosing between 90mm and 75mm lens to buy.

Bildchef Posted August 4, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 4, 2014 A welcome from me, too! Wish you lots of fun with your new tool/toy and always perfect conditions for Leica-shots... I caught this sweet desease only 2 months ago starting with purchasing a nearly mint M6, followed 2 weeks later by a mint M6 Titanium und this week I wait for my new M240 silver 100YearEdition... I gave away all my Fuji X-gear and am sure not to regret it. If one turns 60 he deserves the best tools and toys in every respect imo! I'll keep my Nikon D4 stuff for a while but feel like I will not use it very often from now on Cheers Michael
dant Posted August 5, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2014 OP, nice blogs and photos. I got 4 Leicas. (2 MM's, 2 M240's) The M240 is a beautiful cam. My only wishes were it to have faster live view return from a shot, a better sensor and maybe wired remote plug. I wish Fuji had made Leica's sensor. I'm not a mp crazed photog. Sure I like high mp's if I can get them. But the Leica's sensor for what it is, is not much better than my Fuji-X's. now the MM is a lot better than the Fuji X. But the Leica has perfected manual controls which is what I wanted in a camera. If they never upgrade the M240 I would still be happy with it. And in the big picture, I wont be upgrading any time soon. Leica's are high priced for my budget. I stretched cause I was sick of Fuji's crazy engineering, but I can't keep stretching...I'll make due. Generally speaking I shoot manual for 90% to 99% of my work. 2014 Gathering of the Juggalos. : Photo

I shot 85% of my latest project with it. I'm no camera fondler, but I wasn't going to ruin the Leica's. Can't afford to replace them. http://familyicp.tumblr.com/image/93351476533 http://whoopwhoopartistsbook.tumblr.com/image/93155790996 http://whoopwhoopartistsbook.tumblr.com/image/93155163536 OK, this was Leica... http://whoopwhoopartistsbook.tumblr.com/image/93154882861 After I got hit in the head from some flying debris I decided to use the Leica for some safer shots. I had to wash my Fuji multiple times per night. (and day) I got all sort of things thrown at me. No use risking the Leica, the Fuji took the abuse and they go in the trash when they die. Someone knocked my Fuji into my jaw and almost floored me. I'm happy it was not the Leica tank. The tin-can Fuji did enuf damage.
PdtPhotography Posted August 6, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted August 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Haha Dant that is quite a Dante's inferno you were in ! Am not sure I would dare to take my Leica gear and test the water resistant qualities of the camera in those conditions. I have worked with NGO's (on a voluntary basis, am no pro tog) and don't think I would take a Leica there (even though I always felt safe) as I was evolving in mud and typhoon conditions. I have a x100S that I have kept also for more rugged street photography or when I travel for work (I travel a lot, which explains all those pics!). I have considered selling everything but then it came to a simple conclusion: My gear is quite used and not worth as much for a buyer as it is for me. So the price I would get would not be interesting and the day I would need my gear, I'd be renting for more than the selling price! Again thank you all for your kind comments and words. I also made some comments on my new bag (Ona) will post some more later. I am working on a project in HK during the summer, am hoping it will be finished by September, will share then! krieves Posted August 10, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 10, 2014 Patrick, Congrats on the new camera! I have been a Canon SLR shooter all my life and recently made the leap and added a M240 and a couple of lenses to my gear bag. While my 5D MkIII is my bread winner camera, my Leica goes with me everywhere. It's amazing how quickly it became a part of me and a natural extension of my eye. Again, congrats and happy shooting.
