349A Posted August 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys, Did some searching, didn't find the answers. I've got a 27" Mid 2011 iMac and I'm considering an Eizo CG277 or CX271. My first question is how would the Eizo be connected to the iMac? Second question is which Eizo to choose. I have a ColorMunki Photo that I use to calibrate my Epson 3880 and iMac and that seems to work quite well. The CG277's major selling point seems to be its self calibration- am I missing any other advantages to this model? So, am I better off with a CX271 and using the ColorMunki Photo to calibrate the Eizo and Epson or the CG277 and let it calibrate itself and use the ColorMunki for the Epson only? Thanks! sanyasi Posted August 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2014 I love the self calibration. As for connecting, I had an iMac of that vintage or earlier and was able to connect using an adapter, but I don't remember which adapter. I would call Eizo for pre-purchase support. I found them to be very helpful..
paulsydaus Posted August 5, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 5, 2014 You may not need to buy anything! If your monitor comes with a DisplayPort cable, you can plug this directly into the thunderbolt port on your iMac. It will work, trust me. Thunderbolt and display port are physically and electrically compatible. Thunderbolt was designed to be fully backwards compatible to DisplayPort. Your iMac will detect what type of device is connected and it will work seamlessly. So all you need to confirm is that the monitor comes with a DisplayPort cable and that it is long enough to reach the back of your iMac. Simple! The Thunderbolt port on Macs is a Mini DisplayPort - smaller than a regular DisplayPort. Most monitors, if they come with a DisplayPort cable, will provide the standard DisplayPort to DisplayPort one. You may be lucky and receive a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable as well, but if you don't you can purchase one from various outlets online. paulsydaus Posted August 5, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2014 Ok sounds like he needs a display port to mini display port cable! That would be better than using a size change adapter IMHO as it removes the need for an extra adapter and break in the cable. These definitely exist but it doesn't look like Apple offers a first party solution...
paulsydaus Posted August 5, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2014 I just looked at the data sheet on the Eizo monitors in question and the exact cable he needs is an included accessory. Case closed!
LeicaBraz Posted August 5, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not so sure. I have a FlexScan SX 2262W and had to buy a Mac mini-display port to DVI adapter. iMacs don't come with the standard display port inlet
349A Posted August 5, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted August 5, 2014 Thanks for the help so far. It does appear the Eizo is packaged with the correct cable according to: Eizo ColorEdge CG277 27" Hardware Calibration IPS CG277-BK Now I need two things- to make a decision on which model and a bigger desk! tobey bilek Posted August 7, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 7, 2014 The Eizo calibrates better than Mac. Something about backlight , but I don`t remember exactly. You need to do initial calibration with colorimeter and then set the recalibration time interval. Then darken the room and push a button on the front to recalibrate. Take 30 minutes to warm up even if it has been in use. Save the 27 iMac for email etc. Get a Mac pro for photo stuff which is what I did or a small Mac Mini. PS really does not take that much computer unless you get into video, use hugh MP camera, or let the HD clutter up. Move the old files to storage.
