Hey all,

Have been reading this forum for awhile and this is my first post. I'm about to click the order button, but want to get more info prior:

1. Since there is a rumor on ME that the new version will be announced in September, should I wait then decide if I should go with M 240 or ME?

2. I'm very close to NYC and have access to both the Leica store and B&H. Who should I buy the camera from once decided?

Much appreciated,

Silly Bun

Welcome. Your two candidates are one generation apart, more or less. The ME is essentially a slightly improved M9. As to whether to wait, it depends how urgent is your need. A few weeks is not long to wait to find the answer to your new model query. Meanwhile visit a local dealer and handle the current options. That will help clarify your mind.

Someone living in USA will give you an answer on local sources of Leicas.

Hi David,

Thanks for reply. I live in the States and close to NY. I was just asking should I buy from the Leia store instead of authorized dealer given this is an expensive item.

I understand they are gen different between the two. Since rumor said there will be a ME upgrade, I'm just curios maybe the new model has features equivalent or better than the 240.

I would go directly with Leica store/boutique. Having a good relationship with your Leica dealer will benefit you in long run. I'm shooting with M240 and super happy. You can also wait for few weeks to see what are the latest announcements from Leica in Photokina.

FWIW- I would go with BH. Their customer support is superior to Leica. They will likely throw in some extra stuff - memory cards, mini tripod, etc They are a certified Leica dealer and will give you a 30 day money back guarantee. If you need warranty support you will want to go directly through the Leica Service Center in NJ rather than waste time going back to the Leica store or BH. And the Leica Store will likely help you anyway should you stop in there even if you buy the camera at BH.

I wouldn't buy from either of those stores if I lived in NY because they would have to charge NY state (and possibly NYC, Idk) sales tax, which will add several hundred $ to the cost. If you buy from an authorized dealer in another state, like Dale or Camera West or Popflash, you will save a bundle. If you live say in NJ or CT then you could buy from the NY stores but only by mail order. If you buy in the store you'll pay sales tax no matter where you're from.
