thighslapper Posted June 24, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2014 rather sad that this fine camera is now overshadowed by the T and has never really had enough support to be really popular. whatever Leica produces in the next few years this will remain my constant companion as a small, AF, M substitute .... firoze Posted June 25, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted June 25, 2014 The T is the new Leica baby, so currently all the attention is naturally being lavished on it. But give it a few months and maybe people will start focussing attention on the XV again, esp considering the price drop. Possibly, quite a few might prefer the XV's physical controls vs the T's onscreen ones.
dkCambridgeshire Posted June 25, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 25, 2014 Note that in Part 1, EP writes: "By the way, at the optimum apertures of the lens and a focal length comparable to the standard 50mm lens for 35mm format, the Vario-Elmar outperforms the Apo-Summicron-M. One should however keep in mind that the Vario-Elmar has a modest maximum aperture. Everything has its price!" And how much does the Apo-Summicron-M cost? The XV nay-sayers' opinions voiced so vehemently in mid-2013 have been proved so wrong - time and time again. The XV has a superb pedigree especially as regards Leica's zoom lens design expertise - expertise which enables exemplary performance at all apertures throughout the zoom range. dunk
khongja Posted June 29, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 29, 2014 Many a years ago i parted my dad's prized M3 when he gave up photography for I could never be serious like he was! That was ages to me but somehow I took a turn and plunge to rid my whole Nikon FF system. Imagine lugging along those heavy loads of metal and glass! I took leave from Photography and then the itch was too good to resist. Today my favourite side kick for walkabouts and streets shooting is the XV .I am amazed by the IQ and its colours and versatility. It brings me fun and joy in my shooting spree. Now I learn the hard truth why Leica is so special to people. This leica change me into a m43 addict overnight.XV will always be that special camera ! period!
