uhoh7 Posted January 27, 2017 Share #28  Posted January 27, 2017 the reason why I never bothered getting 75 Apo-Summicron is that 75Lux @f/4 is way too sharp and most commercial shots I do are between f/4 - f/11. for OOF opens up to 1.4 and for crispy pixels closed down to f/4 Yes, the lens is not always well understood and there is lots of fuzzy romance around it. It's completely different at @1.4 than anywhere else, however DOF is so tight you really can't use for portraits easily like that, with fuzzy noses LOL.  Once you get back a bit, it's fine WO in terms of DOF for a face: Jon by unoh7, on Flickr  And sharpness WO, while it can be glowy is pretty even: Mini in Snow by unoh7, on Flickr  By F/2 the lens is blistering, and it is closer to the 75 cron than most realise: Blue and Silver by unoh7, on Flickr  Back to WO (on M9 I need ND filter, but A7.mod will go to 8000): Trailer Bed Post by unoh7, on Flickr  Puts has two very different reviews of the lens, one very matter of fact and a later more enthusiastic one which has more emphasis on character. But what many don't realize is at F/5.6 it's just as sharp everywhere as the 90AA. For portraits only, I would take both the 90 pre-AA cron or the classic Nikkor 85/2 in LTM over the 75 Lux in a minute. OOF render is nicer on both, IMHO, and, especially with the 90/2 pre-AA, a mid-zone drop creames it further.  WO: Puberty by unoh7, on Flickr  just one click back to 1.8: deadpan by unoh7, on Flickr  It's a monster on the camera, terrible to hold, super long focus throw, so you can't shoot it fast, many copies with calibration issues, 15,000 made, so it's well overpriced....I use it all the time  Desperate Character by unoh7, moi  These shots are with both M9 and Sony A7(#4 and last 2), but that camera has the Kolari thin filter mod. On the stock Sonys it's look varies a bit, and a friend, Charles K, actually sold his because of it's render on the stock A7r2. A7, A7s, A7ii, it's quite useable.  One last on the Sony Mod, with a CF adapter I think: Di Paulo Xmas by unoh7, on Flickr  Outside the 90 macro I think the 75 lux at .7 is the most magnification of any M lens, no?
