And of all the posters on this forum they are still minuscule to the number of cameras sold. Not very comforting to the ones having the issues but it is what it is. I am not sure about this for me it is 100% flawed on three brand new M cameras. Confidence to Leica quality has been reduced dramatically. The only excuse to Leica is that the cameras were bought from a Premier Dealer and possibly they were toying with the cameras. I will buy one from the Leica store directly; I just hate the fact that I have lost nearly three weeks of my time testing and trying to figure out if the camera that I received would operate correctly or not. So far it has been the worst possible buying, operating and reliability experience and the best possible IQ in pictures. M is still a fantastic camera when it works. As far as the "minuscule" part is totally unacceptable and ridiculous to loose £5100.00 because you think that we are a statistic. I am the consumer shame on you. If Leica would hear this they should ban you from all forums and as a customer. I hope that I will not loose any more time with my next buy.

I have bought 5 from Leica stores out of eight purchased and there is no difference with regards to lockups-they all lock up sooner or later and most always at the most crucial part of a shoot. dante Posted June 26, 2014 Share #23 Posted June 26, 2014 ...they all lock up sooner or later and most always at the most crucial part of a shoot. Unfortunately, they do. The Leica half case (what they call the camera "protector") is starting to get wear and tear just from being ripped off the camera to pull the battery mid shooting sequence. I have just 6500 frames in, and the frequency is increasing. I'd like to at least reload the current firmware, but Leica's fail safes don't seem to allow it. Rick Posted June 26, 2014 Share #24 Posted June 26, 2014 The Leica half case (what they call the camera "protector") is starting to get wear and tear just from being ripped off the camera to pull the battery mid shooting sequence. Dante When I was on vacation for 3 weeks in Europe last August, I had so many lock-ups with the beta (current version) that the bottom plate locking mechanism failed from so many removals! I had to use a sharp piece of metal I found on the ground as a tiny screw driver to MacGyver it back together. I have since stopped using the auto sleep modes and have no lock-up since, that I can recall. The new FW seems to eliminate the types of lock-ups from the EVF. I guess time will tell if it solves other non-related lock-ups. Hope it does for those that are having the problem with no EVF. By the way, the RX1 on that trip had its own issues including several instances where the camera gave a message that it could not write to the card, right in the middle of shooting. It asks if you want the camera to recover... YES or NO. YES is the default. The first time the camera did this I selected YES and the camera went on to reformat the card and my wife lost all of her morning pictures from Santorini. I instantly became very popular. It happened 3 more times and I just exchanged cards. The corrupted card was able to load the pictures into LR just fine. And, Leica owners think they have card problems. Oh, Sony hasn't provided one single FW update and the camera is about as old as the M240. I doubt if Sony will ever address any of the problems with the RX1 with a FW update. drdannn Posted June 26, 2014 Share #25 Posted June 26, 2014 Let me be the first to welcome you to the 'Lock-up club'. We are getting new members everyday now!!! Hopefully the new firmware which should be released on May 24th will fix the issues. May 24th of what year?
LocalHero1953 Posted June 26, 2014 Share #26 Posted June 26, 2014 I'm in the club. Three lock ups since getting the camera in January. It is certainly not EVF related, nor environmental heat, nor shooting in C mode, and not just while LV on. There've been too few to see a pattern, but it may be when I've tried to do a lot of things close together, such as several shots in succession, or shooting and then jumping into the menu: but I'm not really sure. Aside from the irritation and delay, there have been so few occurrences, and it is so easy to fix by removing the battery that I am not convinced that the proportion of those with problems is "minuscule". If all you want to do is take photos, and you know it's a known problem, well, it may be easier to put up with it and hope it doesn't happen again, rather than complain and send your camera off for a fix that might not work. Rick Posted June 26, 2014 Share #28 Posted June 26, 2014 I hate when people bash the Sony RX-1 on the Leica User Forum. This Forum is for bashing Leica gear, not Sony gear! Too funny. But, hey, I am an equal manufacturer basher. When I had the A7R (ugh) and the RX1 I bashed both Sony and Leica. Remember? You called me RickSony during that period. I still have the RX1, as you know, and love it. Even with a few quirks. In some ways it is my favorite camera, ever. For around the house and just going out around town I probably take the RX1 along 80% of the time. The RX1 is the best PAS ever made!
lanetomlane Posted July 5, 2014 Share #29 Posted July 5, 2014 I've had two M8's, an M9, M240 and a Monochrom and have never experienced a lock-up on any of them. I'm not complaining. Cheers, Tom

Dante After reading all the horror stories about lockups, I did buy Luigis bottom plate and half case, when I bought the camera, which permits me to pull the battery and card without taking the half case off. This of course has ensured that I have not had any lockups, just as carrying an umbrella ensures it will not rain. My M3, BTW, has not had any lock ups in 30 odd years.
