Marwin3000 Posted June 18, 2014 Share #1  Posted June 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys!  I tried searching the forum to find the answer but I came up with nothing.  I just stepped into the Leica world with a M6 Classic. Right now I'm shooting a few rolls with a 50 Summicron version 4, that I may buy. But I think it has some back focus issues. With focus on infinity it doesn't overlap perfect. I'm not shure how perfect the overlap is supposed to be of how far infinity is supposed overlap(the subjects I've tried it on is atleast 20m away)  Hope this makes sense, and I appreciate any help  Cheers

Guest Ansel_Adams Posted June 18, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted June 18, 2014 If you are referring to the viewfinder patch then the problem will be with the camera not the lens. Â p.s. Congrats on the new camera. Great system.
pop Posted June 18, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted June 18, 2014 Infinity is farther than you think. Use a target which is about a thousand times the focal length away.
tobey bilek Posted June 18, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted June 18, 2014 Check with a star on dark night to be sure you are at infinity. The house at the end of the block is not far enough. Â The easiest check is a vertical line which should go straight through the finder without deviation or being a double image. The line must be parallel to the camera beck plane. Â The lens can be off calibration, but that is less likely than the camera. Â I have from good sources the tolerances for the RF and lens have been tightened with the advent of digital. Problems I have seen are that infinity is correct, but close focus is off. This with new lenses straight from the box, and camera either new or recently calibrated. All done from tripod and well illuminated. Â There are also problems with the focus moving as the lens is stopped down. Â With a single lens and single camera it is impossible to home diagnose the problem.
Marwin3000 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Share #5 Â Posted June 18, 2014 Thanks for the responses so far! Â I tried the lens on a MP today, and it had the same problem. Tried a 50mm Summilux on the M6, and the overlap on infinty was perfect at the same subject! Â So I think I can rule out camera faults! I haven't bought lens yet, so I'm not too stressed.
