MitchoIankov Posted April 30, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi dear members of the forum, I have been looking at the technical data for Summicron-M 50 mm ( URL="http://www.leica-camera.us/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_122.pdf"]http://www.leica-camera.us/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_122.pdf[/url] ) which I own and use and I have noticed (pages 5 and 6) in the depth of field graphs that when F is less than 5.6 and the lens is set to infinity (distance setting) there is nothing in focus. Does that mean than if I am trying to photograph a distant (more than 5 km away) mountain peak and I have set the lens to F less than 5.6 the subject will definitely be out of focus? Am I reading the graph correctly (the table above the graphs seems somewhat different) ? Cheers
Advertisement Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Hi MitchoIankov, Take a look here Dof / focus question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
masjah Posted April 30, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2007 Mitcho No, I don't think it means that. The depth of field charts only show distances out to 20m. If you focus on infinity, there will be depth of field from infinity in to some distance greater than 20m, which therefore will not register on these charts. If Leica had extended their charts far enough out, you would have seen the thick line coming in to some distance or other, as you do for the f/5.6 aperture (and smaller apertures). Hope this helps.
