Tom Barry Posted June 14, 2014 Share #21 Â Posted June 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) An excellent photo of one of my favorite animals. Like others here, I don't "get" hunting wolves, and I was a hunter for most of my distressingly long life (75 years and counting). When my last Labrador retriever died two years ago, I quit hunting. I quit hunting deer decades ago. For years I had only hunted birds because the dogs loved it so. At my age, I don't want one to pine away if I shuffle off the mortal coil while he's still in his prime.

tundraline Posted June 16, 2014 Share #22  Posted June 16, 2014 An excellent photo of one of my favorite animals. I am a hunter too. Pheasants and fish are one thing, but for me larger game has always been different. Our connections with animals are profound, and I believe they are much deeper than most of us can imagine. Adding wild game to my freezer is a good thing, but it comes with a heavy price. You have to kill a sentient beautiful wild being to do so. My hunting rifle has not been used very much for the past few years, and like you my days of hunting larger animals are probably behind me. Here's a photo of my beloved Isabelle, who I take pheasant hunting in South Dakota every year. Mostly she chases the occasional cow and walks behind me, but does well around guns and gun shots. She is a Norwegian Elkhound, a hunter, and one of the oldest dog breeds. Welcome, dear visitor!
