rob_w Posted June 12, 2014 Share #41 Posted June 12, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very interesting. I think the fact you have customised the camera to a range of settings I would not choose vindicates Ricoh's approach. We are all different. I don't use flash, continuous shooting, JPEGs, Effects or focus tracking. For those who do, Ricoh's approach gives speedy access. A big plus.
Advertisement Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Hi rob_w, Take a look here Leica X1/2 or the Ricoh GR. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rob_w Posted June 12, 2014 Share #42 Posted June 12, 2014 Face detect only works when mode dial is set to the "green camera" ... unfortunately. Thanks for this. What I cannot see is any confirmation that face-detect has been selected. Is it the automatic and only focus option for the "green camera"? (Apologies to Leica colleagues for prolonging Ricoh discussion ... will stop now)
waloszek Posted June 12, 2014 Share #43 Posted June 12, 2014 As far as I see it from the GR manual (p. 33 and p.130), face detection is only available in the "green mode" (Auto mode). And yes, the manual states (p. 33) that it is the only focus option: In "green" mode, pictures are taken with the following settings: ... • Focus [Face recognition priority AF] ... Best regards, Gerd P.S.: I will put the question into my GR FAQ (Ricoh GR: FAQ)

waloszek Posted June 13, 2014 Share #45 Posted June 13, 2014 A little bit of activity, particularly regarding the GR, is also in the Ricoh forum at dpreview.com: Ricoh Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review Best regards, Gerd
rob_w Posted June 13, 2014 Share #46 Posted June 13, 2014 Thanks Gerd. Actually the discussion on DPReview seems richer than that in the dedicated Ricoh forum. Very helpful FAQ as well; there should be more of this for such a multi-featured camera.

There is an interesting thread there entitled GR - which one RAW development software retrieves 28mm from RAW ? That discusses how to retrieve the full sensor information from the DNG file when 35 or 47mm crop mode has been used. Nick

s38 Posted July 10, 2014 Share #49 Posted July 10, 2014 I have a Ricoh GR sitting here, the build is great, the feel is great. My made in Japan X-Pro1 felt like a tin can in comparison. Did you mean that the other way around?!! Ricoh GR feels like a cheap toy compared to the XP1.
