jwcane.enw Posted April 29, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My R8/DMR is giving strange responses. Â 1. When increasing the ISO above 100, the red LED on the back panel flashes, and the ISO number in the LCD display flashes. Â 2. When I want to use the delay timer, press the shutter release to the first pressure point, and release, nothing happens. The delay timer does not count down and the photo is not taken. Â 3. I tried reinstalling firmware 1.2, following instructions from the pdf file. The camera appears not to recognize the CIM file. I tried placing the file at top level and DCIM folder of the card. Result is the same. I see no prompts to reinstall firmware. Â Any ideas appreciated.

The back is communicating to the camers's processor to change the ISO setting and once this has happened, the blinking stops.  2- With the delay timer, you set it on the DMR by putting the dial on self timer and then pressing the center button of this dial and using the scroll wheel to select either 2 or 12 seconds time. The timer is then activated by pressing the shutter release gently or the DOF lever. If you have the camera also set for mirror up, you can press the shutter down all the way, the mirror will go up and then the timer will start counting.  3- Make sure the file is not zipped and is in the root folder of the card. I think some of the Mac users were getting an XML extension on the firmware files when downloading. You need to remove this XML extension.
jwcane.enw Posted April 30, 2007 Author Share #3  Posted April 30, 2007 Rob, please see >> below  What you describe in 1 sounds normal. The DMR is a back designed long after the R8/R9were designed. The back is communicating to the camers's processor to change the ISO setting and once this has happened, the blinking stops.  >>Right, but my problem was that the flashing did not stop. "Was" in that I just tried again and the flashing stopped after about 1 second, which is the normal behavior that I had been observing. Strangely (happily?), the normal behavior has returned.  2- With the delay timer, you set it on the DMR by putting the dial on self timer and then pressing the center button of this dial and using the scroll wheel to select either 2 or 12 seconds time. However, I was not able to use it at the time of writing my message, and for about 24 h. thereafter. However, I just retried, and the normal behavior has returned. Very strange.  I did not know that the DOF lever does the same thing. What about mirror-up? How does one set that, and what is the advantage?  3- Make sure the file is not zipped and is in the root folder of the card. I think some of the Mac users were getting an XML extension on the firmware files when downloading. You need to remove this XML extension.  >> The file was unzipped. I have installed it before. The actual need for this has now passed. But I do find it strange. The file that I copied to the SD card has the extension CIM. I placed it first in the root, then in the DCIM folder, both without success. My hope was that re-installing the 1.2 update file would correct whatever issues had developed within my system (original Items 1 and 2 above).  Do you know if the update actually reprograms the entire camera or only a few, targeted areas of the firmware?  Further on this subject, Leica informed me some time ago that a new firmware revision was expected. Does anyone know when this may be forthcoming?  tks,  jwc
