Hi Dear

I just bought one.

Products & Solutions / Caplio GX100 | Ricoh Global

I've been watching on this newbie for a while. Saw it in my dealer shop today and snap it in a heartbeat. The color and dynamic range seems promising for such small sensor walkaround compact.

- 24 - 72mm (35mm equi.)

- f2,5 - 4,4

- compact

- innovative detachable evf

- step zoom preset at 24/28/35/50/72

- independent AE lock and focus lock

If Panaleica make up something like that, I'm sure it will sell like hot cakes.

A fast snapshot at 50mm (equi.).

- Matthew

That's an interesting camera. I want to review one. The pre-set focal length settings will make it easy to use with external finders. Thanks for the post.

How long a delay is there between RAW exposures? Any buffer for that?

The Ricoh GR has, in my mind, two weaknesses - the fixed 28 mm EFOV and the delays in RAW mode. This seems to address at least one of the two.

Cheers,

Sean

Hi Sean

Would be real great to see you review on one.

My half day impression is,

- the color rendition of the lens and sensor combo is quite pleasing to me.

- noise level at ISO 800 is for sure visible but resemble film rather than poor digital noise.

- raw write time on Ultra II or Extreme III is the same, around 5 second per shot. As I can recall, GRD is 11 second.

Build quality of the body and evf finder is reasonably good. This digicam is designed with heart. I'm presently set it at the step zoom mode, I find its ergonomic is good too.

Best

Matthew

Thanks Matt. The GRD was 12 seconds so five is a good improvement.

Cheers,

Sean - I usually admire your writing, but that's a poor joke. At least I hope it's a joke.

....................Chris

Hi Chris,

12 seconds, no joke, see the GR digital review. What were they smoking when that decision was made? Well, perhaps some kind of pipe that had them thinking people would mostly be shooting JPEGs with this little camera - a miscalculation to be sure. Many people would pay an extra $100 or so to get a RAW buffer in a small-sensor camera.

Cheers,

Sean

You sorta gotta buy 3 GRDs to make reasonable speed wise for raw with the GRD..... still a great little cam I actually use it as a spot light meter for my return to film 25mm stuff on the Bessa L
