theoldman Posted May 14, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted May 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it possible to renumber the files, create a new folder, on the X Vario? Â I am finding issues with processing files that have the same number as my old M9 files. Â I'm thinking of just changing the L100xxxx to X100xxx. Can it be done? wda Posted May 14, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted May 14, 2014 A similar question was raised recently in another thread. So your assumption is consistent with advice therein.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what assumption I've mentioned though. I thought I was asking if it could be done. You mention another similar thread - could you please point me to it? wda Posted May 14, 2014 Share #4  Posted May 14, 2014 Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what assumption I've mentioned though. I treated your statement: I'm thinking of just changing the L100xxxx to X100xxx. as an assumption. I believe the other thread was in the M 240 section. ( A search brings up http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-type-240/331471-how-do-you-name-your-files.html  The menu is different on the XV to that on the M240. The XV allows for number reset back to L100xxx, but nothing else that I can find.  It is highly likely that I'm doing something wrong, but what that is, I was hoping someone may know. wda Posted May 14, 2014 Share #6  Posted May 14, 2014 The 'L' is a permanent fixture in any Leica camera numbering system. To differentiate you just select a new folder number of your choosing, eg 200 or 500 for the X Vario camera. Few users exhaust one hundred folders I would guess.  For reference, I use a file system on my M that begins M100xxx.  I'm not sure that the folder on the XV can be changed as you describe as I can't find access to the folder to rename such that the number begins with 200 or 300. I can only find reset to 100xxx. If you know how to do this please let me me know - I will be very grateful.
wda Posted May 14, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted May 14, 2014 I sense your frustration over this admin task. My approach is rather different, as described in the other thread. Using Lightroom Library module, where I manage all of my digital stock, if I want all X Vario pictures, for example, I simply search using the Metadata filter. For example, I often need some examples taken with a specific camera, filter my stock and place the search results in a newly named Collection. For some tasks, I set up a Smart Collection. So that if I constantly want to look at X Vario pictures, a Smart Collection can filter my stock constantly and show only pictures taken with that camera. As new stock is downloaded, so the new relevant pictures are added to that named Smart Collection. Further levels of filtering are possible, such as pictures taken during a specific time frame. Camera file numbers are largely irrelevant to me, although I do incorporate them in a new composite reference number at the time of ingestion. If you have Lightroom, I would commend you to explore that highly useful facility. PM me if you need any help with that method.
