rafikiphoto Posted May 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) On a recent trip I experienced an odd event with my MM. After taking a shot the MM began a disconcerting 'chattering' sound for a few seconds during which the SD card write light was flashing a mixture of red and yellow. This happened twice and after each shot the shutter button felt soft as in no resistance at the half-press. Each picture viewed OK on the rear screen. I switched on and off after each event. I changed the battery and I removed and reinserted the SD card but the phenomenon occurred again just once more after which there was no recurrence. Can anyone shed any light on what might have happened?

ho_co Posted May 4, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 4, 2014 Brian-- Only a guess: Sounds similar to an M8 problem with some shutters. With them, the shutter wound on properly, but didn't trip the mechanical linkage to tell the wind motor to stop, so the motor continued to try to tension the shutter. The defect needed a repair from Leica when it occurred. Hope that's helpful, and I hope that's not what's happening!

That indeed sounds like what I experienced especially as the shutter button lost tension. It happened only briefly on day two of our holiday and has performed fine since. If it happens again I will despatch it to Solms PDQ before the warranty expires.
