Attn. Leica: Please make an X3 for us - with a monochrome sensor!

Just my humble opinion, but an X2 type camera with a sensor like the M Monochrom has would be a great camera to put in the lineup.

Thoughts?

yep for the 15-20 folks who would go for it........

I do not believe it is commercially viable

As well loved as both the M Monochrom and X2 are, it seems to me that the camera I propose would cause a stampede of buyers (provided it is priced correctly).

JMHO, though.

I would think a mono X2 would be even more feasible than a mono M9. But the latter has been more successful than Leica anticipated, and as a happy Monochrom owner I can attest this.

Such a version would make it less scary to jump into mono-land. Besides, the mono-trick is a great way of making a rather pedestrian sensor into a beast.

If there is to be an X3, please endow it with the latest sensor technology, jitter-free adjustments and an f/2.5 Summarit lens. That should be possible without increasing body size. Let it also make use of the existing OVF. I could then be tempted to upgrade my X1 which continues to contribute on a daily basis.

Just by the way: With Leica’s naming scheme there won’t be an X3, ever. If the next model should have a prime lens it would be called ‘X (Typ whatever)’, with a zoom lens it would be the ‘X Vario (Typ whatever)’, and if it should sport a monochrome sensor – which I doubt – it would be the ‘X Monochrom (Typ whatever)’. Now what again was the model designation of the camera recently making the rounds on the rumor sites?

Yes please...and with a 40 or 50mm equiv lens. The X2 is an exceptional camera (especially as addition to a film kit, but also in terms of ergonomics, handling) with a lovely lens and I would love to see a monochrome, more powerful version that is specialized enough to step ahead of the competition for b/w work (and keeps the X series alive).
