XVarior Posted April 27, 2014 Share #3  Posted April 27, 2014 Does anyone have any experience with the XV ERC? Amazon.com : Leica X Vario Everready Case, Black Leather : Camera Cases : Camera & Photo  Shame the flap isn't removable so that it can be utilised as a Half Case.  Thanks  Not detachable? Thought it was. I don't have it, I got the half case and the bag but in my experience I guess the ever ready case jus suffice as I almost never go out with the bag. I just take the camera with one extra battery in my pocket. No reason to carry anything else with this camera so the everready is a suitable choice for it. harvey999999 Posted April 27, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted April 27, 2014 I got it for the gorgeous look, but yes it can be cumbersome to take a quick picture. It's more suitable as a case to protect the camera while travelling.
Synergist Posted April 27, 2014 Author Share #5 Â Posted April 27, 2014 I had the X2 ERC, which I used with an X1. Mostly for protection when carrying the camera in a rucksack and against potential knocks when slung over the shoulder. But the XV ERC is noticeably bulkier obviously, so wondered how much faff it was to "undo" and fold over? Â Cheers.
Guest Posted April 30, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted April 30, 2014 The ever ready case won't accommodate an attached EVF or (I don't think) the lens hood (not sure about that)... That's a deal breaker for me. it is beautiful however. Â Initially, I used the Leica neoprene case (14867) for times when I needed to toss the XV + lens hood in a backpack (but I have to remove the EVF and store it in it's small pouch). The re-assembly will slow you down though and this can sometimes get in the way of capturing that decisive moment. Â For me, the EVF is a must-have for steadiness - due to the XV max aperture and limited image stabilization (and I am more of an old-school shooter). Â And so, I now have an ONA Brixton (messenger style) bag to keep my assembled XV + EVF + lens hood protected in transit when needed. Beautiful quality, not very expensive, and more unobtrusive (doesn't look like a camera bag). I now use this instead of a back pack when I need to stow the XV and carry a laptop and personal items. (They have several different sizes +/- to suit your carrying needs.) Â Like Rodrigue, I usually just travel light and carry the camera without a bag and I keep a spare battery in my pocket. The half-case seems to be a good compromise for carrying protection if you don't want a bag, and want the camera always at the ready with EVF attached. Â Cheers. calithumpian Posted May 17, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted May 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Ever ready case for the Vario works pretty well, it doesn't accommodate the Vario lens hood or EVF, but it is beautifully made and does allow a snap to be taken quickly. When opening the case the front part can be wedged beneath the lens for a comfortable shot (although the focus and zoom dials are difficult to use). Unlike the X2 ERC, the Vario case has press studs around the strap eyelets, which allow the camera to be secured and released very easily. There were some good photos of the case on the Leica Store Miami website.
