Leica Meter MC - How is the performance of meter rated - are the readings reliable? - or is it now just too old

It differs from my Lunasix 3 which almost agrees with my Pentax K100 Digital - same film speeds, situation etc.

I believe the MC was a selenium based sensor, which is inherently less sensitive than a cadmium sulfide sensor used in the MR meter. I occasionally use a old spare MC meter in relatively strong light and it is ok...but I wouldn't think of using it in less than shadow. Newer meters are just so much better than the old ones.

The 'newest' MC meters w/selenium cells have to be 40+ years old today. Selenium deteriorates with time. Unless its been replaced during that time, I believe its accuacy, on other than cloudless days at high noon using only wide latitude negative film, shouldn't be trusted.

The cells can be replaced though. Even with that though, inexpensive meters of today will be more accurate, particularly in lower lighting.
