kidigital Posted April 26, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Following in the thought-provoking footsteps of Bradley's "leica photography" vs. "m8 photography" thread, I ran across an interesting article that might shed some light on the eternal debate: Who is by nature the happier Leica M8 shooter ... the left-eyed or right-eyed Leica M8 shooter? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/24/science/24wag.html For the record, I'm an unapologetic left-eyed shooter. Advertisement Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Hi kidigital, Take a look here Who's happiest, left- or right-eyed Leica M8 shooters?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted April 26, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2007 LEFT IS BEST! Thanks for the link, Kurt! Good article. --HC

sdai Posted April 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2007 Beware of nose grease on the back plate, do not buy from any left eye dominant shooters! LOL
andybarton Posted April 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 26, 2007 And how is this M8 specific again? If you're a left eye shooter, you're a left eye shooter. Surely?
sdai Posted April 26, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 26, 2007 And how is this M8 specific again? This is the trickest part of moderation, Andy ... I'm sure it's not digital related either. LOL
kidigital Posted April 26, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted April 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andy, it's meant to be satirical. Perhaps it belongs in the "Nature and Wildlife" forum. Kurt
andybarton Posted April 26, 2007 Share #8 Posted April 26, 2007 Sorry... I was on four separate flights yesterday and it's just starting to kick in... I've been looking at used Cessna prices...
rwfreund Posted April 26, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 26, 2007 Had a 182 for several years, but I guess this maybe belongs in an AOPA forum... Cheaper than a boat, but more expensive than Leica acquisition syndrome, a disorder I find I now suffer. -bob
ho_co Posted April 26, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 26, 2007 ... I'm sure it's not digital related either. LOL Simon, shame on you! You mention nose grease and then contradict yourself with this! Of course it's digital! We use our digits to rub the nose grease from the LCD! But beyond that, the nose-grease offers a quick check on our health: Greasy LCD means we aren't dehydrated. --HC
DaveEP Posted April 26, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 26, 2007 But beyond that, the nose-grease offers a quick check on our health: Greasy LCD means we aren't dehydrated.--HC LOL! And there I was wishing I was right eyed instead! Left eyed for sure..... but some times I wish I was right eyed instead. After all, I 'can' focus just as well with both eyes (yes - I tested it!), but for some reason, unless I am really concentrating, I always pull the camera to my left eye. Hmmmm...... Now you are telling me that when I can't see the shot on the LCD for grease, and I am looking for something soft to wipe it with, what I should be doing instead is thinking it 'Oh, yes!, I am not dehydrated!' !! .......Hmmmmmmm..... not sure about that one
sdai Posted April 26, 2007 Share #12 Posted April 26, 2007 Simon, shame on you! You mention nose grease and then contradict yourself with this! Now you've got me, Howard. But hey, I just understand why some people demand weather sealing for the M8 ... so they can bath it in a kitchen sink, then take a shiny picture for their eBay listings. rob_x2004 Posted April 27, 2007 Share #14 Posted April 27, 2007 Well...no. I am by far left eye oriented. The camera is set up for right eye so I learned that. Its not like trying to learn a piano or something. There are bigger learning curves to rangefinders than dominant eye.
Jager Posted April 27, 2007 Share #15 Posted April 27, 2007 I've been a left-eye shooter for decades. Nothing to do with dominant eye - I shoot firearms entirely on my right side - just a way of working with cameras I long ago found most comfortable. However, when I received my M8 a few months back it became immediately apparent that there was no way I'd ever keep the screen clean if I continued with my wayward ways. So I converted to right-eye shooting. Only took a few days to get comfortable with it. So there, you see this thread IS M8-specific! ;-) Jeff
rwfreund Posted April 27, 2007 Share #16 Posted April 27, 2007 These have all been non-responsive to the question: "Who is happiest..." Now I think that I am pretty darn happy, and I am a left eye shooter even back to the M3, but who is happiest? That is real tough. How ought we to measure the relative happiness of left and right eye shooters? -bob

GMB Posted April 27, 2007 Share #18 Posted April 27, 2007 I tried to move to right eye because or the "M8 Nose Grease" sympthom. My three daughters told me that when right eye shooting, I look even more embarassing than normal:o So I went back to left eye with a greasy screen:)

sdai Posted April 27, 2007 Share #20 Posted April 27, 2007 .....though some days I feel I may as well shoot with both eyes closed The next M8 firmware upgrade should include a beep to alert you when the camera detects closed eyes, Dave.
